NB extractor hood group buy
Just in case anyone looking for an NB extractor hood has not seen this yet:
ClubRoadster.net I do not go over to clubroadster very much, almost never, so I did not know about it. A buddy of mine told me about this hood, he is getting one too. I saw it and had to have it, not for the bling, but for the venting. Here is a photoshop guesstimate of what the hood will look like http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3435/...49d223d6_b.jpg They will be available in fiberglass or carbon. I'm posting up here in case anyone here that is also not a bling-bling clubroadster surfer like me did not know about this either. $300 for a complete bolt-in carbon extractor hood ($200 for fiberglass) is pretty cheap IMO. Not affiliated with the seller, blah blah... |
DROOL .... but what happens when it rains?
|
I've been watching that for a little bit with mixed feelings. The good: like the concept, like the price and that's about it. The bad: hate their lack of knowledge & research prior to starting, hate that their posts make me feel like it's some kid making these in a shed behind his parents house, hate.....etc.

Drive faster :bigtu: Seriously though, good point, and I considered that, but I do not think it would be a big deal. The furthest back opening is still well forward of the fuse box. They are not open directly above the valve cover so the plugs should not get soaked. Stuff under the hood usually gets at least a little damp in the rain anyway. While driving at faster than stop-and-go speeds the air flow will be blowing out through the vents so rain would not get in. But I'm certainly open to comments from extractor hood owners about whatever rain issues they have experienced. |

I am at the bottom of the list AFAIK so unless they all get shipped at once, a few others will get theirs before me and can be the guinea pigs. The deposit is only $10 so what the hell. |
My car is outdoors year-round, including in the snow. So I definitely want to learn more about this issue before buying a vented hood.
Also I'm unemployed right now, so questioning the rain/snow issue is a convenient excuse to avoid blowing my money on this! (Or a convenient excuse to say I was "smart" by waiting until the hood is on the market and tested first.) But, DAMN, it looks good. |
Any thoughts on whether it might fit a car with a top mounted turbo setup? That would actually be my primary concern with any vented hood.
I also wonder how much a body shop would charge to customize my current hood and paint it accordingly as an alternative to something like this. |
Good point.
If I had the money to buy this - $350 (w/ shipping) + painting + labor .... it might make more sense to get the current hood modified instead. I'm very interested in the idea of a nose-mounted air scoop AND a modest extractor at the rear of the hood. Bring cool air in, let it flow over the radiator and stuff, then let it rush out. Kind of like turbocharging. :) Or, also for similar money, do a coolant reroute. Or ..... since we're talking about NBs, it's feasible to remove the fog lights, install HIDs to compensate for the decreased overall illumination, and put ducting in the fog light location. |
Man, i'm making good money now and just like the way it looks. I'm a sucker for shit like this.

I expect a minimum of 8 months before you see the first production hood.
but it's better than the alternatives. |
How did they come up with the design / location of the vents?
|
Its taken from a Scoot hood that fits fd's. The first batch of hoods should be ready at the end of july.
|
What's the history of the vent location / development on the FD's?

Hmm anyone see any problems other than water with an extractor hood on a daily? If I got this i would want to put mesh in the vents. This would effect the airflow unhappily I assume..
|
It comes with a rain guard
|
If I had an NB i would definitely pick one up. Great prices for you guys on the group buy! :bigtu:
