Need 1.6 vs 1.8 rear caliper bracket help

I purchased 1.8l rear brackets online from a reputable seller. They didn't fit, i sent them back. He and I are going back and forth figuring this out... but he feels that the caliper brackets are correct. But I couldn't get them to clear the new 10inch rotor.

Here is his comparison picture, my 93 miata caliper brackets are the same as the one on the left. That he states are the 94+. Remember.. 93 and pulled them off with 9.2x rotors. Can't even get the bracket on far enough to start threading a bolt in.

Thoughts? Anyone have one sitting around to look at?

look at this:

see where the anti-rattle clips go? The top is pretty much flush with the lip. Those are the OEM 90-93 brackets

now look at this:

The anti-rattle clip lip is not flush to the top of the backet anymore, there is about 1/4-1/2" of material to the top.

what rotors did you buy? Are you trying to put the 01+ "sport" rotors on the rear? The bracket on the left, to me, looks like a 94-05 "normal" bracket.

Unless you have the rotors on already....the wont fit. You have to install the brackets before the rotor, like my pic. Maybe that's your problem. ( i even made a note of that on my FAQ)

Great pictures for this.

I'm so confused though... my 93 look like your 94+... but i couldn't get them to bolt up with a 94+ 10inch rotor. Bah!

I need to visit the car this weekend and stare at stuff a bit more. I've never had brakes befuddle me before.... its annoying :p

To me in his picture I see the 94+ on the left and 89-93 on the right. Just by looking at the relationship to the lips.

sure yours weren't aready converted?

the car was 100% stock when I got it. Unless they changed the bracket.. and nothing else. When I mean nothing... the rotors that came off were just a hair over 9inch in the rear. Everything interior/exterior/mechanical was original oem.

ahh...i just looked again at the photo....the bracket on the left appeared to have the extra girth to it like i described, but on second look, it appears to be a very similar, if not duplicate bracket..

Guess what... the old brackets work. The 93 miata.... with 100% stock everything... had 94+ caliper brackets in rear. With stock 90-93 rotor and pads... I suspect that 93 they started using the different bracket towards the end of the production year.... and I have an anamoly.

Would be absurd for it to be the only thing on the car ever be modified... and even then... rotor/pads left stock.

haha good little bit of worthless knowledge. Doubt that it'll ever come up at trivia night tho.
Glad you got it straightened out.
