Need better options for wing mount ARP wing
3 Attachment(s)
Ok so here is the deal I know I have been ignoring my miata but i am back. I am starting a new thread because this will be helpful to people that run into deals like me or what to run a non APR wing. Here is the dilemma. I bought an excellent condition used APR wing on craislist for stupid cheap. I have it mounted to my trunk lid currently but this is not going to work for one I cannot tighten it all the way down because the mounting surface of the wing is flat and it puts big dents in the trunk. I was going to live with it but I cannot. If I use the other mounting holes on the wing the mounts will be just outside the trunk seam witch I think would be ok but I would never be able to get into my trunk again. So do I mount it outside the trunk and just deal with it being a pain to get into the trunk or is there another option to mount it to the trunk and add support or does any one have a better wing mounting solution.
Here is how the wing is currently mounted. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1353574639 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1353574639 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1353574639 |
Two solutions I have seen:
1) Get a 2nd trunk lid and don't worry about dimples in the metal. 2) Move to the outer holes and put some L bracket in the rails to mount to. Another set of risers will get you enough elevation to use the trunk a bit or you could pull the wing when you aren't on the track. |
I like the option of mounting it farther out and maybe a higher riser to clear the trunk. I have also toyed with the idea of mounting the trunk with dzus fasteners so its easier to get in there. I am going to look into making new brackets that way I have mount it to the stronger lip of the car near the trunk and I have still open the trunk. I will post some pics as I move along to see some different ideas.

There's a couple awesome examples of wing mounting in the New wing to test thread. Like using the inside of the trunk cutout.
