Need a high flow cat
i was told that i must put a high flow cat on my car, so i need some advice. I know a little about cats but nothing on how they effect forced induction engines. so let me start my list of questions.
1. Which company makes the best high flow? I have a 3 inch exhaust so it limits the companies i can use. 2. How will adding a cat to a straight flow exhaust effect the performance? is it something that im going to have to fiddle with the tuning after adding? 3. I love my exhaust note and dont want it to change to something high pitched and whiny. Will a high flow effect that? 4. I was told to get a cat because it is federal law, do i also have to have a muffler? I know each state is different but im looking at he big picture seeing as im in the military. I dont want to put one on if i dont have to. |

The one I scored from Enthuza is really nice and it was a waste of money to make a test-pipe in its place due to almost no increase in output. |

It is an install it and leave it alone type of part. At least, until you melt it. :) You can destroy metallic core CATs, but in general they are more resistant to fuel and spark conditions. If you add a metallic core cat, it will make the exhaust slightly quieter than without it. I don't use ceramic core CATs, so I cannot tell you what they sound like. Stephanie |
buy my 3" Magnaflow
|
Boss Frog makes a test pipe, but it's probably too loud for you. Look into FM's highflow or Jackson Racing's highflow...I forgot which one is resonated but that will keep the sound down a bit...

I have "the" metal cat for sale

ive used the metallic spun one from magnaflow...its nice and works jsut fine.
part number is 59959. planetmagnaflow.com has pretty good prices for them, where i got mine. |
Is anyone passing emissions with the Bullet or metal cats?

You don't need one, I live in CT and I haven't had a cat in my car for over 5 years
|
I sent you over a PM. I have a 3.0" Enthuza cat with 1.8L flanges that I have never used that is just sitting on my shelf.

thats interesting. the guy that runs the auto hobby shop on base says i need to get one or ill get screwed by the cops. yes my exhaust is loud but i dont think its as bad as some of the other cars on base. its by far the loudest but because the pitch of it is low, so it doesnt seem that loud.
|
They can hit you up with an inspection ticket if they feel it is merited (ie exhaust too loud, too low). I have a 3" magnablow highblow and I had no problem passing emissions nor do I get shit from cops (but I generally roll past them in neutral so as to not anger the hive). Got that shit on ebay for cheep.

I killed a ceramic core cat on a fairly lean tune between emissions tests on a previous car. I wouldn't buy another for a turbo car, "high flow" or not.
