Need a NB Soft Top

So my 1999 soft top has become de-laminated from the glass at the top and suprise, leaks.

Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with buying aftermarket 1999-2005 soft tops? I'm looking for companys to avoid or persue.

Or perchance does anyone have one for sale? Black preferred.

my 00 has a glass window soft top from davezhouse (sp?). no problems yet.

Stein 05-10-2009 10:23 PM

I've done two on two of my cars - both from Daveshouze. One glass window and one plastic. They are Key tops. Decent aftermarket tops for the money. They both fit perfectly.

Where do you guys buy the davezhouse tops?

I think im gonna be looking for a new top soon.

I'll PM you their email address tomorrow. I don't have the address at home. They don't advertize on ebay any longer because costs got so high. Just email them with a year and color and they will get back to you with a price. Paypal and you have your top within a few days.

I have their phone number at work I can try to dig up if anyone wants it.

Dr. Nick 05-11-2009 10:51 AM

Yes please.

My Robbins cloth top with glass is sexy as hell. Real nice quality, but it also cost a lot. It was like 527 shipped from moss when they were having their 15% off everything sale. Had a friend come over and 4-5 laters it was on.

I bought a "used" top from a member here (leatherface). It's a black canvas top with glass window, no defrost, complete with rain rail. It was installed by the P.O. before he decided he wanted a tan top instead, so he took it off and got a different one. I never got around to installing it. It spent less than a week on his car, and looks absolutely brand new.

I'm sorta tossing around the idea of a HT, but I don't have the funds. Anyone interested in a partial trade?

From Daveshouze:

Hi Nick, Pam and I are no longer selling tops due to our supplier selectively raising the price on certain Miata tops excessively. We are searching for a new supplier, but do not have one at this time. Sorry.Dave
So in the mean time, I guess Robbins is my best choice. Thanks for the help.

Damn, that's too bad. I just bought my last one a couple of months ago.

Anyone know how much the robbins tops are?

The zip out plastic window with rain rail specifically.

Not for sure, but I'd guess platic window Robbins with rain rail will be $600. They are nice tops, but not inexpensive. The rain rails alone are $150 which is a total screw job, no matter what the company.

Thats quite a bit. If an original glass window top goes for 900 from a dealer, how much can a plastic go for?

What part is considered the rain rail? And could it be re-used from my old soft top.

Possibly, but you won't know until you take it off. I was able to reuse one and had to replace one. You can repair some cracks with gorilla tape, but if they extend into the water channel, it isn't worth it to risk dumping water into the cabin or trunk. I see the Robbins is only $50 more. Daveshouse was $115 so it was worth taking the chance. It just cost me another $15 shipping on the one I needed but I saved $115 on the first one. Obviously, Robbins buries more cost in the top iself and it is probably worth getting all in one.

Basically, it's a rain gutter that is riveted to the bottom of the top. It takes the water that drains off the top and funnels it into the two dumps in the sides of the car so it can drain on the ground.

Also, when you replace it is a good time to clean those out. They get filled with dirt and gunk.
