I used a cordless impact. One of the best tools I have purchased.

Got the driveshaft changed yesterday afternoon with only a few minor hangups.

The previous owner had a resonator put in right next to the driveshaft and it was really tight trying to get the old one out. I disconnected the exhaust near the front and was able to get it in there.

It made it easier to take the bracing out too. Only 8 bolts held it in. The bracing is made up of about 8 different pieces, but mazda welded them all together.

Didnt have any transmission fluid leak. I borrowed a cordless impact from work too, which made it easier.

Did it fix your problem?

Sure did. I could move the ujoints on the old shaft up and down and it was squeaking and felt pretty rough. Hopefully the "new" used shaft will last a few years, im not sure how old it was.

Mazda wanted $700 for a new driveshaft which is crazy. I have seen carbon fiber driveshafts for other cars that cost that much.

There is a manufacturer online that will sell you a brand spanking new aftermarket driveshaft, balanced and with fully serviceable u-joints, for all of about $275
