New exhaust!

Since I sold my turbo kit, I have been driving around on a open header.. After much hearing loss, I got my Roadster Sport mid pipe from Good-Win-Racing..

If you NB guys are looking for a really nice 2.5" mid-pipe with cat, this is the unit. It fits freakin awesome, like stock..

Then today, I had our local exhaust shop build me up a axle back, 2.5" mandrel SS piping, magnaflow muffler and tip..

I didn't get any pics of the mid pipe, but here's the pics of the axle back.

Sounds great, quiet at cruise, but a quite a bit of good noise when you're on it.. not too ricey, just right.

Thanks to Alex and Joey @ Bluegrass Muffler here in Louisville.

I like Magnaflow, I have one on my turbo... same same. 2.5". Nice, burly sound at idle and cruise, a little louder on throttle, but man when the turbo hits spool and i have it on wide open throttle, it makes this sound... I'll try to get a grab of it. It sounds pissed.

yeah- sound bites pleeeeease :D

It looks super nice, I like the fact that it goes through the axle and isn't made of a bunch of pieced together pie cuts or bends. The 2.5" kills it for me though.

I'm so jealous of you guys with shops that can do mandrel bends. Right now I have a 2.5" dump right off my downpipe because I have to build my own exhaust.

It does look very nice though. I'm thinking of going with a magnaflow muffler myself.

If you buy the bends and take them with you the shop will cut and weld them up just like they would anything else.

Hey nester is BGM as high dollar as i think it is? It seems to me they are pretty expensive.

Instead I bought a little welder, and I'm going to buy the bends and put it together myself. It just has to be really nice to make a one stop shop. Not to mention that is a prettier exhaust than I can ever hope to make.

this is exactly where i got my inspiration
pretty soon friends, DIY mandrel bent TIG welded custom SS 3" exhausts will be available to all...im working hard on it and it should become reality very shortly...

I used to love magnaflow... until I had one spit it's flaming guts out after only 1 year and 15K miles. Probably won't buy another magnaflow.

That is nice work. Shiney too, but not for long I'm sure.

Looks like it's over the axle to me, just under that extra brace that I don't have anyway. I don't see how a large diameter exhaust coud run under the axle. Feel free to prove me wrong please.

PS, I think I weld better

It is sooo sexy too.

Ben 09-14-2007 11:00 PM

that's also over the axle, under the subframe brace.

hmm... this could just be an issue of semantics though. my use of 'under' and 'over' may be opposite of what you're thinking.

cjernigan 09-14-2007 11:13 PM

Ah, guess i was confusing subframe brace and axle. I was thinking you were saying that 3" would have to be under the subframe brace. I see no way you could actually put the exhaust over the axle, there just isn't any room.

I'll try to get one this week, right now you'll also get a bonus... clutch slip!

nester 09-15-2007 04:47 PM

depends on your idea of high dollar. it's no backyard muffler shop in the country, but then again, you can tell that by the build quality..

It was going to cost me $180 to get an axle back out of aluminized crush bends with a no name muffler and no tip in shepherdsville.. I spent 280 with tax on this unit, all stainless, mandrel bent, nice muffler, nice tip.. I think it was worth the extra..

I ended up spending 600 on exhaust, which got me 2.5" from the header back, high flow cat, resonator, muffler and tip.. all stainless.
