New paint and dyno today

Picked up the car and drove it after over a year of building/sitting. Took it straight to the dyno to be tuned. Made 290hp and 276tq @15psi. Words cannot describe..... :)

I feel some last moments of April FOOLs...

Vash has given us nearly step by step process, and a moment by moment build. And for no pictures of the car of it coming out of paint ( which would normally Require some re assembly)... Then taking it right to a Dyno, without much of a beginning tune.

I call Bullshit...

Please prove me wrong. I like your build and anxious to see the final turnout. Could be right on time for spring however.

lol....you got me. I would def have pictures once the paint is on, and a video of the dyno. I just wanted to see if anyone would catch on. I mean its been forever, it should be done by now. :vash:

Truth of the matter is I haven't been down to the shop in weeks now to check up on the progress. Hopefully the jokes not on me and I actually get to drive the car this year!

The bodyshop guy is our neighboring shop at our complex. I've had him work on the miata a couple times now. Every time he holds onto the car for months on end. He does great work and gives me a nice price, but he is bad with timeframes.

No joke this guy has had some MAJOR issues with holding onto cars. One example; he kept 2 cars in our shop because he had so many he filled all of his bays up, not to mention at least a dozen or so outside. My dad and I were down at the shop and this older guy in his 70's shows up, looking for the bodyshop guy. The man glanced in our shop and caught eye of 2 cars covered up and asked if he could look. Turns out one of the cars in our shop was his and was untouched from the last time he saw it. It was a pretty sad site, the guy was crushed. He told us its been a couple years since he started the bodywork (restoration 60's car that i forget), and that he was told on the phone it was being worked on. Next week the tow truck showed up and picked it up.

But I cant complain cause like I said I know he does this. As long as I go down soon and bust his balls and get a little pissed off, he'll get it done. I hope! :vash:

Sounds like my last machine shop. Basic short block rebuild took 10 months. It took me finally getting firm with them to get the work done. It almost seemed as if they purposely waited for me to tell them to finish the fucking thing already.

Saml01 04-03-2009 10:18 AM

Why do you guys wait around? How much money could you possibly be saving to make it worth the wait? IMHO, if you want to help someone out, do the work as you would for a normally paying customer, otherwise why bother offering.

Ok fine, SLIGHTLY longer, you do it on your off time, but making someone wait too long is just unprofessional no matter how nice you are trying to be.

The local "badass" machinist has a 2-month backlog. You have to wait for quality work...but I'm not waiting 10-months.

Vashthestampede 04-03-2009 11:59 AM

Yea I hear you. I don't like waiting months on end for the car to get fixed but, especially during the winter months it doesn't bother me a bit. If it was home it would be covered in snow outside. At least at the bodyshop its inside his shop.

I'm not sure what other going prices at bodyshops would be honestly. I just know that the work he is doing to my miata now is a good amount, and I should come off without having to pay a dime. Instead I'll be trading him this 99' GMC Envoy that I blew the motor in years back. Its not worth it for me to fix it, and trade in would be a lol in my face, so this worked out nice. He came up with the idea and asked if I would be willing to trade the GMC for what he does. I didn't even hesitate with a "no problem!"

Only thing that's a bitch is its starting to get nice out. And I'm willing to bet if I go down to the shop, the car will look exactly how it did 1 month ago. So I'll have to talk a little shit and tell him I already have a dyno date set to make him pick up the pace. In the meantime I longboard everywhere or drive this slightly modded LGT around town. :bigtu:

wayne_curr 04-03-2009 03:08 PM

I've got a buddy that used to do stereo work for like 10 years. Great work, very impressive. He really knew his shit. But if you ever (as a friend) get him to do work for you, its the most half-assed, falling apart, unfinished piece of shit ever.

Good that your body man atleast still does you good work =P
