New starting problem

well I've been having MS problems, but now I have a starting problem. I know the battery Is 100% charged, It has fuel I can feel it in the lines and hear the pump. Its almost like the motor is locked it wont even try to crank I changed nothing just went to leave and it tried to start for a millisec then this. I'm thinking maybe the starter?? but not sure any other ideas?

Hydrolock from a leaking fuel injector?

Remove spark plugs and see if there is fuel sitting in any of the cylinders, will it turn over with the plugs removed?

Can you hear the solenoid clicking? Like is there a click and then just no cranking, or you turn the key and nothing at all, like the battery isn't even connected?

tap on the starter with something hard like a hammer (or hammer handle if you can't reach). TAP, not bang. like no harder than you'd tap on your own knee.

then try starting the car.

Try the y8s method.... worked for me awhile back when replacing head. I knew the injectors, fuel, and spark were good - but no turny over.
Several taps, and then it was fine.

the reason it works: the starter bendix unit is going bad. sadly there is no simple fix besides a new starter. which may still do it after a short while. get a lifetime warranty.

And I did have to replace the starter eventually.... ;)

Im goin to give it a try today :eek5: I have my fingers crossed

UPDATE: pulled the coils and plugs and what do you know bryce was right cyl 1 was a lake of gasoline. So now what do I do pull the injector and replace o-rings and dry out the cylinder with air???? or am I screwed :vash:

Arkmage 09-05-2008 07:44 PM

pull all the plugs and unplug the fuel injector and ignition harnesses... see if it will turn over. If it does, good. blow it out with air and let it sit for a few hours. then replace the fuel injector o-rings and try again.

Maybe I'm confused, if an injector leaks from the upper o-ring won't that fuel end up outside the engine. To leak into a cylinder like this, doesn't the injector have to stick open? If that is the case, sticking it back in is just asking for more fuel into the cylinder, and the possability of more hydrolock. Shouldn't he just be getting the injectors cleaned?

I just had them cleaned and flowed by injector rehab and they all flowed 550

turbobluemiata 09-06-2008 07:20 PM

well just got it all dried out and pulled the o-rings none were pinched but no start:vash:! It cranked though but didn't start just the good ol sound of the starter
