new to turbos

I am actively looking for a Miata and have come across one with a turbo newly installed. I am new to the turbo world, is there anything special I should be looking for? I would hate to buy it and have problems with rite away. Is there any dangers I should be concerned with? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

post pics, we may know it or could point out problems/good stuff. do a compression check. look for leaks. judge the car by how maintained the interior is.

Does this make sence to you guys?

I have a 1990 mazda miata with only 49,000 on the hole car all original. it needs a radio and due to the old oil fitting it leakted about 2 quarts of oil in the exhaust. it runs good and when the exhaust heats up it burns the oil. i have a new oil fitting for it so its all good to go"no leaks".i have so much money in this car. the car is worth 2,200 and i have tuns to upgrads make me a offer and its yours. I goin to colledge in 3 weeks and need the money for a apartment.

Sounds like one you should stay away from for many reasons, mainly the whole oil problem, 2qts in the exhaust, now fixed??? Things like that.

I'm assuming the guy selling the car wrote that? I wouldn't even think about buying a car that someone worked on if that's how their mind works when they write.

Uh huh. :squint:

Of course if it's local to you there's nothing wrong with going to check it out, but based on the written description I'd have low expectations. Who goes through the effort and expense to install a "new" turbo system, only to turn right around and sell it? There's no profit in that, so the next logical reason to sell the car is that it doesn't run right. This would seem more likely considering the guy is going to "colledge" but didn't have the forethought to not dump all his money into a Miata. As Vash said, do you think someone with that type/lack of planning would have built it right? If it's local, go ahead and have a look, but if it's just another online ad then move on.

Burns oil through the exhaust and he fixed it with a new oil fitting?

Maybe its a blown turbo.

I love when people install headers on a turbo charged car. :)

I also have "tuns of upgrads" on my car.
Just walk away man... walk away.

unless the car is running and is selling for $1K with a reasonably clean body... I wouldn't bother. Sounds "well broken in" aka "fucked up"

Sounds like a scam!!!

CWEG-if it is local you would be an idiot not to see it in person. He is asking $2200, and he will drop his pants if you ask

make me a offer and its yours
Remove all the turbo stuff and make sure it runs well stock. When you buy it and start over and only reuse the things you like from his "kit". This can be a great deal, esp. if the car has only 50K miles on it.
