In a non-tubbed Miata, traction will always be a problem as a 225 drag radial will never have enough grip to pull a 1.5 60 ft. Enough traction to pull a 1.5 60 will break axles.

Right Jay? ;)

1.5's is fast, but not that fast. Much heavier cars that are not tubbed do it all the time. The lighter the car, the smaller the tire it takes to hook it up properly. I can not say for sure if the 225 drag radial will hold a 1.5, but I think it is possible. A small slick on a miata will for sure.

I am working on the axle problem.

1.5 is fast for an independent rear suspension car. Much heavier cars that do it run fat slicks and have a solid rear axle (and an auto). No way you will pull a 1.5 on a 225 DR. The Miata has been around for 20 years. Do you think you're on to something new? You aren't. But more power to ya. Whatever floats your boat.

I think I am on to something new. I do not want to run on about it until I do some testing, but I have a hunch as how to correct the problem.

Drag racing irs suspension is something fairly new. Straight axle racing has been around for eons. People will get irs to work on the dragstrip; it is not rocket science. Give it time.

I can not prove this, but I may have gone faster than anyone ever with a 200 hp or less miata in the 60', and maybe in the quarter mile. I spend much of my tuning time making what I have work on the track.

I would say yes and no to this. Anytime we launch our cars hard it's very hard on the entire drivetrain. There's a couple ways to eliminate this. Running a wrinkle wall slick will help out quite a bit because it will flex enough to absorb a lot of the shock while giving traction at the same time. Another way is to go with a completely different transmission and use a trans brake. The axles are a weak point, but the failures could also just be caused by car setup and driving style. I will never rule out myself as the real reason a part fails.

Do you have problems with wheel hop using the Mickey Thompson drag radials? I have a set of Nitto drag radials, and I hated the wheel hop. That is part of the reason I went with slicks.

I run the ET Street Radial II with the catalog number 3751R (which does very good on the strip, but is very different than the MT drag radials). As for wheel hop, nope, sure don't have an issue with that at all. I've had the Nitto and BFG tires on previous cars and had never liked them, I feel they are junk. I would love to run a nice set of slicks, but it's still a street car. I drive it to the track, tech it, get in the staging lanes and make my passes without any changes. Same setup that I run on the street to include the tools and spare parts that I keep in the trunk.

I am about to trash the Nittos.

I will try the Mickey Thompsons. Looks like they have an appropriate size for my application.

:nxsmile:Still looking for nitrous miatas out there.

I decided to pull out the nitrous kit that I have been planning to install, but never got around to it. I wanted to learn how to properly tune my car before going big. After playing with the car for a while now, I feel confident enough to put the nitrous on.

I made a little progress on my nitrous install.

I made this bracket to install the solenoids so I do not have to mount them to the firewall.

Suuuuure you haven't. ;) Welcome back Hyper... People are about to witness history in this thread, shit that has never been done before... :giggle: Good luck with a 1.5 60' nitrous Miata. I don't think it will ever happen, but good luck trying.

This sounds 100% like Hyper.
The resemblance is uncanny :eek5:

Someone needs an IP check:giggle:

Can't be Hyper, even he's smart enough to go turbo.

miata2fast 11-10-2009 11:33 PM

Wrong guy.

My name is Troy. I do not know who Hyper is or what his name is. I have searched Hyper for a few minutes, and never even found any threads by him. I will continue to search, and will eventually find them.

If I came across as an ass hole in some of my posts, keep in mind that I have just started this whole forum thing when I joined Miataturbo. I have been working on my etiquette, and have toned down my comments. Give me a break.

Did Hyper have a nitrous car?
