NJ Inspection.

Anyone able to "inspect";) or know someone who can "inspect" my car? 91 with a 1.8 T28 3" straight through no cat and DIYPNP. North or Central Jersey if possible.

My guess is you may not get many replies to this seeing as youre requesting something illegal that entails a large fine and loss of license to anyone who goes through with said inspection on an open public forum. Im not condemming you, just suggesting that this might not be the best place to ask that question.

Best bet.... get out and go to some car meets.... make a friend, and you will get the hookup... because 99% of people at these "car meets" especially the WalMart "car meets", wont pass a real inspection, but i guarantee they have a sticker on that windshield. lol

What does NJ actually inspect? If it is emissions, then you should possibly be able to tune the MS to pass. You might have to install a CAT though to get results to passing state. If it is just a safety inspection, then you should be able to get through it fine.

I didnt think any aftermarket ecu would pass emissions. OBD I or II.

TheScaryOne 05-31-2014 03:44 PM

Here in AZ OBD-1 is a sniffer test. They don't give a shit about safety, or even the check engine light. You can generally create a shitty tune to squeak through, even with lots of deletions. They do check for a cat, and sometimes O2 plumbing.

Speaking of that, I think my cat is failing and my test is in two months....

OBDI does not return any codes in any traditional sense. I believe it was up to each car maker how they implemented codes, in the case of the miata it is the CEL blinking a set number of times. In every state that I have heard of with emissions, it has been OBDII cars get plugged in and it it passes the check there with no codes you are fine. With OBDI cars they would be hooked up to a sniffer on a dyno and run at set speeds and the outputs actually measured. This is why OBDI cars with a standalone are preferred because you can tune them to actually pass a sniffer test.

Rob80 05-31-2014 05:31 PM

I believe with OBD I its the sniffer in NJ and no safety check.

Also im sure that being on a forum called "Miata Turbo" that majority of the cars are street driven in states where inspections are done. So im sure that most of this stuff on this site is illegal. We have discussions of removing emission equipment and cat deletes. Different ECUs and bigger turbos which were not factory installed. Even the states with no inspection doesnt mean they are legal they are just lucky to get away with it.

So sorry for asking the questions.

Nope. You're a fool if you think its even remotely the same.

Everything we talk about here is either hypothetical, or done to cars for "off road use" or "driven in Mexico".

If you think someone is stupid enough to come forward and offer this service to you on a public forum, where everything is on a server and can be traced/found.....well.....I don't know what to tell you then.

Its a felony and loss of license, on top of a gigantic fine. In some states jail time is involved too.

Coop 05-31-2014 05:36 PM

You didnt read my post very well did you? I wasnt attacking you, just pointing out that its highly doubtful that a certified state inspector who would like to keep his job would risk meeting up with a random stranger over the internet for something illegal. I dont condemn you for not having a legal car I just think asking someone to illegally inspect your car via an internet forum doesnt have a good chance of working out.

Edit: Thank you psi. Beat me to it.

Its pretty easy to get e85 in jersey, just have to drive to NY. With e85, and a proper tune, you should pass the sniffer test for a 91 with no cat. You could probably pass the 91 standards without the cat and a really good tune.
