I couldn't find much info on this. Maybe it should be obvious, but I haven't been to a track to see how it is supposed to be done. This car is a weekend toy, and will not see any track time.

I recently bought new seats; aftermarket ones from eBay. I proceeded to have the guys at work cut me adapter brackets on the CNC so I could mount them to the stock sliders. Then I had to remove them, because the stock seatbelt receiver mounts to the side of the seat, and the new ones had no such provision. Rather than take the time to fab more brackets, I put the stock seats back in to pass inspection. Now I want to remount the seats.

So, the obvious solution is to either fab receiver brackets, or go with aftermarket "race" harnesses. Buying harnesses is easier. Since I can't see ever actually racing this car, I've been looking at the eBay stuff. No certifications (which is much cheaper). I'm looking at the 4 point style, because I can't ever see myself dicking around with anything more involved. Which raises a few questions:

First, I see some harness have these hooks on the end, instead of a mounting plate. I assume these mount to ring bolts instead of being bolted down. Is this correct? Anyone have this style? How do you keep them from rattling and driving you crazy? Am I completely wrong on how these hook style are supposed to be attached?

Some do have mounting plates with bolts. I assume you need backing plates and just bolt through the panel behind the seat. Anyone do this? Is it possible to mount both the lap and shoulder belts to the same stock mounting points? Are the shoulder belts usually long enough to do this?

I have looked at harness bars from HardDog and BossFrog. Both have styles that are simply a tubular bar that bolts across the seatbelt towers, the same place the factory brace mounts. I assume the factory brace is not strong enough to be used as is, but is there any reason it couldn't be reinforced? If you want to mount to a harness bar, do you just cut the hooks/mount plates off, or is there a different style end to get?

You dont have two holes on the sides of the seat? I guess I have never looked at the 94 seats. But on my 90 the seat belt receiver was bolted to the transmission tunnel. When I installed my harness I just used those two bolt holes.

My 94 has a threaded hole in the tunnel, it's behind the carpet. My stock belts latched into the seat. I put eyebolts in the tunnel and lower OEM belt bolt location (near the door) for my harness and drilled the floor for the sub-belt mounting point.

Yeah, those 2 points are the stock locations. That's fine for the lap belt, but I'm wondering mostly about the shoulder belts. The receiver mounts to the tunnel in the back, and to the side of the seat in front.

Could I mount both to the same points? Sounds like an awlful lot of stress on just two bolts.

I wouldn't run the shoulder belts straight down to the floor. Get a proper harnessbar. You do have a rollbar right? Also, don't dick around with 4-points. You're looking at the cheaper side off harnesses and the only 4-point I would even remotely consider is the Schroth ASM style one, which isn't cheap.

A buddy of mine has the exact same thing: race seats, no rollbar, 4-point harnesses. I refuse to ride in it.

But for a car that won't ever see tracktime, why bother?

Because I need some sort of seatbelt, and I can't see trying to cobble up the stock receiver. New seats do not have provision to mount the stock slider thing, so I thought that 4 points would be a decent alternative.

No, I do not have a rollbar. This is a weekend toy, not a track car. Rollbar seems like overkill. Can I use a harness bar without a rollbar?

A rollbar is never overkill. You could use just a harnessbar without a rollbar, but I'm sure most of us here wouldn't.

You could source some 90-93 belt latches to bolt to the tunnel and keep your seats instead of going the harness route. Or get some 90-93 seats with the separate belt latch.
