non starting

hi guys. this is my 1st post on here. i'm from sunny england. picked up your site from a couple of british sites and been checking yours out today. impressive site you guys certainly know your stuff.
any how on with my query i have a '91 eunos roadster (jap import miata) which has been turbo'd and also has an e-manage ultimate piggy back and a whole host os other stuff on it too.
i am having trouble starting it the car will turn over but will not fire up. i have cleaned all the earths in the engine bay. fully charged up the battery. checked all fuses. i have checked for spark and shes good. i have checked to see if the fuel pump is working by bridging ground and f/p together and still no luck. i have checked all the jumpers on the e-manage system to see if in correct position all ok. i have checked the fuel injector relay with another miata and it's not that.
now on to the more complicated bit (which is where i find i should have posted in the e-manage bit). i am getting a pulse going in to the emu from the injector but there isn't one going out of the emu. i have tried an emu from another "trusted" car and mine stil had the same problem so i can't blame the emu. if we bridge out the feed in wire and the feed out wire the car will start you have to leave the bridge on for about 2 minutes then remove the bridge and the car will run absolutely fine.
i am now to the point of where do i go from here any pointers guys will be very much appreciated.
thanks in advance
neil

This might be a stretch, however, I had starting issues in my car without the emanage. Turns out, the problem was the ignition switch. When you pull the connector, of the back of the key, all the pins were burnt, and half of the plastic was melted.

Check and see if yours are OK.

I swaped the wiring plug, and the connector on the key lock for one from a early 90's 626, or Mx-6. The plug and connector were a different size, but still the same 6 pins. It's been working great ever since.

Also there was something in another thread, where the wiring to or out of the emanage were a little loose. If it's still happening with another emange, it's not likely the unit. Wiring somewhere.

You are getting a signal from a the injectors? Is this coming from the common power or the switched ground? Are the Euro Miatas reversed earth?

Its been along time since my brother had his MG Midget but I remember talk of Brit cars with positive grounded to chassis and the negative the "hot" side... or am I nuts?

nellycollie 05-09-2007 03:27 PM

no never heard of that before and its not the case of euro miatas. but it could be on other cars.

Some of the older british cars did have positive grounds. Old MG A's and such like.... JDM/UK style miata's should be "normal" though. <G> One reason to stay away from the lucas electrics. <G>

The name Lucas still makes me shudder.
