noob here. need advice

Ok all. Need some help/ advice. Thinking about trading my r1 for a boosted miata. Its a 1990 with what I'm told has an engine from a 91 with about 60k miles on it. Have no idea what kind of tune, size injectors, or really anything for that matter. Guy says he's been running about 10psi to it. Now he says it starts and runs fine but when it gets warm it just cuts out. Thinks it may be a wiring issue. Was just curious if anybody has had a similar issue or has any input on what it could be and maybe a price range on how much it would be to fix. Sorry for the lack of details. I asked the guy questions but he bought it already turboed and has no idea what alls been done to it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Probably the bypass fluxificating electrode actuator. The one on the passenger side.

find out what engine management it's using for starters.

Apparently its all stock. He said he replaced the ecu with a stock one. Again sorry for the lack of info I have not even seen the car. Mainly just trying to find out if its a good trade.

Stay away. Unless your trade value is under $1000.

But it and sell it on clubchoadster. Everything about that Miata looks pretty awful. Shitty wheels, poorly fitting widebody/bumper, stock ECU. I think the valve cover is the nicest part of the car. Can't see any other details from the potato picture.

Lol it does have a garrett turbo which is pretty nice. And recaro seats.

This reminds me of when a friend when we were in our early 20s traded his ragged out ThunderAce for some other kid's basketcase IROC-Z. Neither party made out well there, either.

That Miata looks like garbage, and with the way it's sitting on those wheels and suspension, it'll definitely drive that way, too. I have a feeling that the turbo issues are a lot more than just "a wiring issue."

Good point. I'm thinking of steering clear of this one. Not sure I'll probably still go look at it. Pictures hide a lot as well which scares me. I'm good with engines but when it comes to turbos I'm new to that. Could it really be something too serious though? If it starts and runs it has me thinking that it can't be anything too expensive to fix.

Yeah, you're right. Turbos and their aftermarket computers and support systems are simple; this guy probably just didn't have the 15 minutes necessary to fix them so is trying to trade the car instead. Probably should just go ahead and get it. Redoing ragged out bodywork and replacing crap suspension and wheels are cheap and easy, too, right?

I hope you don't intend to make a new thread for every clueless question you have regarding clapped out turd buckets you want to trade your bike for.

cause we hold ourselves to a higher standard here

You're such a great help. Eat a dick. If anybody else has any real input it would be appreciated.

If it were me, i'd start off with a clean, good running Miata - you can find them everywhere for pretty cheap. Start your turbo project by reading, reading and more reading on this site. Then buy a megasquirt ecu and some larger injectors. Get the car running well while you start putting together the needed upgrades to the car, like the clutch and brakes. Once the car is running well, and you've set it up as a good platform to add power, then look into buying the turbo parts after, you guessed it, reading more info on this site.

Just my two cents here, my car has been on megasquirt for a year now, and i am just now starting to put turbo parts on it. Not because of money, but because if you don't take the time to research, you will end up spending more time and cash in the long run.

From the pictures it kinda looks like a mess. The way he has the intake in place just kinda looks lazy and I'm sure that speaks to the rest of the build. I recommend to stay away!
