North Carolina / Charlotte Shop

question for you in the southeast. Do any of you know of a shop that is capable of doing a fully engine / transmission swap? I'm looking to buy a used miata (automatic) and swapping in an 04 Mazdaspeed engine and transmission. My concern is mostly electronics. The engine comes with an ECU but not sure if that ECU from an 04 works in an NA chassis.

Thanks for any help.

How deep are your pockets? The ECU will not work in the NA chassis without a ton of work.

You are better off swapping in a 1.8 motor and manual transmission. Then putting in a MS. It will be cheaper, easier, and better over all.

I plan on using the MegaSquirtPro, I just need to find a reputable shop. I might not go with the MSM engine, but either way I will be swapping in a 1.8 with 6Spd tranny. I just like the MSM b/c basically I'm getting a turbo for about 1K (the price difference between a standard 1.8 and an MSM 1.8)

I have about 4-5K set aside for the swap, so yes money will dictate some decisions.

I just need to find a shop or attempt to do it myself (which sounds like it could be fun, but could end in disaster) :)

Panic Motorsports in Columbia, SC does work like this on street cars...in the grand scheme of things, they're not far from Charlotte.

There's also a mazda master mechanic in the Matthews area, his business is called "M-Tech"...Mike McDonough is his name. I'm not familiar with him/them but they're well reviewed and they might sign-up for this type of work.
