I'm down in Oregon City, we have 5" of snow now.

Although my only turbo is on the miata and there's no way I'm taking that into the snow. after a full throttle run up to 120 it was glowing red, I'm fairly certain most turbos do, and that different colors mean different things. Hustler will tell you that yellow is an indication of running lean, not sure what purple means.

keep in mind all that your engine is meant to handle those speeds and rpms when it has significant air to help cool the engine, without it you could be doing some damage.

btw this isn't really general miata chat...its an audi.

Hell yeah. I took the Rover out and terrorized some neighborhoods tonight. Hope this sticks around for a bit.

i've beat the crap outta my car. done several 40-100+ runs while brake boosting and after that i went to look at the turbo and it wasn't glowing. maybe cause i have no bandaids, a good IC set-up and a good tune?

have you ever driven a stock VW 1.8? If you have, you may remember how incredibly quick they spool up, like start boosting at 1500rpm and full boost by 2.2k. Makes a gt2554 seem kinda big by comparison. I would venture to guess that the turbo gets the **** spun out of it every time there is a full boost/high rpm situation and that coupled with a more restrictive turbine and bam, you got a hot *** turbo. Should be just fine though, they are tough little *****.

a good IC set-up
how would that make a difference with how hot the turbine gets?

/\ he's right....those tiny *** turbo's get hotter then hell when beating on the car for a long period of time. let it cool down properly and its all good.

I remember once I got my wrx td04 so hot it glowed (hotside) bright red. took a whole lot of driving hard for a long time though.

We just got about 7"-8" and its comin down like a bastard right now. Everyone sucks at life when the roads get the first snowfall around here. People take cars out in this **** that cant handle it, then get pissed when they get stuck. My friends LGT is ******* great in it though, I was very impressed.

+1 on glowing turbos being the norm. That means your enjoying it dude.

We have 6 or 7 inches maybe more up here in bellingham. I have been driving the miata around regularly as it is better in the snow than my girlfriend's integra. More fun too Just had to let a little air out of the tires and now I make it around without any issues at all.

I love the snow, its fun. Really wish I had a subby though.

What is this "snow" I hear about? Im lost as to what this stuff is... yeah, outisde of the "blizzard of '93" we have maybe seen 4-6'' since then here in central Alabama. Closest we have is ******** in the wet, which we get too much of this time of year.

Got about 5-6" here in WI on Fri/Sat. Had some fun in the miata...since I have to, it being my only car. Never been stuck in the snow and this is my third winter with it. There's an industrial park near my apartment that rocks for ********. I do think an LSD would add to the fun, though.

Just wanted to add to the AWD+SNOW equation!

Lastnight I was out with my friend and I got her to play with her Subie for the first time. I brought her to a gigantic parking lot and was trying to get her to have some fun. She said she was having chest pains cause I was making her so nervous....lol. She made three attempts at a doughnut and got one about 3/4 of the way around. I was disappointed, but I guess I was happy she even agreed to try.

I don't blame her for being a little nervous, hopefully next time I'll have her doing figure 8's.

It snowed about 8" last year just north of dallas, and my roommate slid off the road in her NC. I had sooooooo much fun picking her up in my outback wagon. I miss the outback. Its been sitting for almost 1-year.

I really, really, really want to swap wrx drivetrain into that car.

My girlfriend loves the "drift master" she wants to go every day but the snow is a little deep for it now. went last night for a bit and almost got stuck like 4 times. i take it a little easier now drift till my oil temps at 210 then wait for it to drop back to the norm. and over and over and over again

Curly! We've got 11" at Charbonneau near Wilsonville.

The NW rarely gets sustained weather like this in the metro areas. It's been snow and ice for 10 days now. Since we don't get it much we don't have the equipment to take care of the roads. Very few snow plows, sanding and de-icing trucks. Transplants from Cold weather states can't believe how bad our roads are. They are used to efficient and well organized plowing and clearing of roads. Even residential. Here they can hardly keep up on the freeways!

To all you NW guys that have parked your Miata's I have one thing to say...

Pansies! That's my car at work this morning.

All vehicles are required to use chains, even 4wd. Chains Schmainz, screw big brother and his stupid rules. BEGI scooper and intercooler just scares the road clean!

loling at the paddle tires!

unfortunetly although my lightness means faster lap times at PIR then you, it means my car doesn't even dent the snow, it wouldn't do good even with chains or studs or both.

yeah, charbonneau is just a little southwest of me, we have about a foot or more now. and with my garage collapsed I have about 6 inches on my miata from 7am this morning, it sucks.

A few people showed up to work this morning but were sent home at 10 with full pay for the rest of the day, and we're closed tomorrow and Wednesday. The NW is not prepared with proper equipment for this kind of sustained weather, its ruining a lot of people's Christmases. I was one of the few from my high school friends to stay local, everyone else is trying to get home to their families in the Portland area, most are failing.

On the plus side my post count has gone from 400ish to over 500 in just a few days, I have nothing to do but sit on my *** at my computer and read threads!
