miata2fast 02-17-2013 06:47 PM

Miatas are like women. You can't have just one in your life. Get another one, a Miata that is.

94mx5red 02-17-2013 08:01 PM

Pics don't work, so it didn't happen?

y8s 02-17-2013 08:16 PM

google plus sucks my ass when it takes over picasa randomly.

18psi 02-17-2013 08:17 PM

now that the pics work, this thread went from massive failure to massive sadness

hustler 02-17-2013 08:22 PM

Kind of sad.

TorqueZombie 02-17-2013 08:51 PM

y8s 02-17-2013 10:04 PM

I am less sad than my wife. it was time.

I treat cars like people, I'm a little Smuckers over your current disposition.

y8s 02-18-2013 10:26 AM

with a name like Smuckers, it has to be good?

also did nobody notice the face on the truck driver?

I was thinking the same thing. Why did he say no pictures of the car on the trailer?

turbofan 02-18-2013 12:36 PM

Man. I never knew a thing about your car except what's in your sig but it looks like it was a sweet one.

y8s 02-18-2013 02:23 PM

dude was paranoid about his loading skills maybe? I dont know. I took one anyway. What's he gonna do? Chase me?

it is a sweet car. fun too.

It was basically the nicest, cleanest NB I've ever been in that had a good tune. I say that because most of us hobbyist tuners have shit-heaps.

18psi 02-18-2013 03:41 PM

my current car my car. same hotside parts, same ecu, same year, mileage, etc
I even had the exact same turbo as him (which is actually quite rare), but sold it for a 60rs

turbofan 02-18-2013 03:47 PM

Ahh. I was just confused since last time I saw your build thread you were still running limp noodle NA.

I could have changed the coolant more often.

Anyway, all it takes to build a car is patience, cash, and tools. It's not rocket science unless you're building a rocket car.

I'm surprised you never got yours to the elite level with all you've put into it.

the only advantage I had with this car is I knew its entire history from day one.

Why? I don't buy "it was time." Surely, you had a reason.

miata2fast 02-18-2013 06:52 PM

I have had my 95 since it was new. I could not imagine getting rid of it.

y8s, do you think you will get another one? Perhaps current gen or next gen?

y8s 02-18-2013 08:21 PM

you want a reason?

here's some:

I felt cramped in it
I couldn't drive my kid around in it
The weather here is not black-miata-friendly (too hot or too cold)
It was too easy to want to get into big trouble on public roads

Sure it's a fun car and fast like whoa, but really I've reached a part of my life where having a highly modified impractical car is less fun than not having to worry about it. It had become a liability so off it went.

Sad.

But don't worry. Kids grow up and then you reach the part of your life where having a highly-modified, impractical car is fun again.

It's fun being the "cool" grandpa.

That's the #1 reason I didn't put the turbo stuff in my daily. I would be in jail.

If we have any sort of an economy in 18-years, buy a racecar. I'll still be racing Miatas then.

People give me a lot of shit over my old, ugly daily. Even though I make great cash, reality is that it cost me about $47/month to insure, tires are $240/set, oil change is $23, and I get over 35mpg. I save a mega-ton of money by not owning "something respectable".

Full_Tilt_Boogie 02-18-2013 09:59 PM

that thread sucks so hard when you all blather on about muscle cars and metal bands.

18psi 02-19-2013 09:22 AM

And sucks even harder when people post completely not funny, or entertaining, or even interesting pictures JUST to make a post.

So I guess it sucks either way.

I aint even mad tho. Plenty of other threads to browse.

y8s 02-19-2013 10:04 AM

there's no rule that says you have to post crap.

actually there's no rule that says you have to post a picture. I made it up for my own pleasure.

Braineack 02-19-2013 10:35 AM

I liked how fast y8s liked to drive up curbs with it.

18psi 02-19-2013 10:43 AM

So I'm curious: what next? is the pooper scooper yours or the wifes? in which case, are you REALLY considering getting a super old pos beater like you're hinting in the other thread?

There came a point in my life where that was a big issue with me as well. That is one of the reasons I have converted my car to pretty much a track car, with maybe an occasional trip to the local street scene. I have my doubts that I will have a really fast daily driver ever.

It is nice to go to a place where you can go wide open without fear of retribution.

18psi 02-19-2013 12:37 PM

Dunno about you guys, but I feel exactly the opposite.

Driving my miata n/a makes me cry. Shifting at 2500 because there's almost no point in winding it out makes me sad.

Though I think at 200whp it would be perfect for the street, and a good compromise between fun without going to jail every other day, so in a way I kinda sorta agree.

miata2fast 02-19-2013 12:43 PM

Some people can handle a really fast street car, others can't. I was tired of the tickets and court dates.

y8s 02-19-2013 12:50 PM

I never got a ticket in the miata. I was pulled over once about a block from home and it was too short a distance for the cop to get any data.

BUT

I don't like the way the car breaks traction and goes all wopperjaw when I go over undulations at full throttle in 3rd gear at highway speeds. Shit like that makes people dead fast.

Honestly I think the 4-door beater project may be a lost cause. My wife reminded me that I was miserable with a project car and no garage and ultimately it's probably smart to just do nothing until I can save up for something that doesn't require labor intensive wrenching to make reliable and awesome.

That may take a while.

oh and for hustler: lets not fool ourselves. I don't drive on the track.

She is 100% correct.

hornetball 02-19-2013 01:21 PM

Sounds like you need a garage first. I would agree with that order of priority. Really, I've only recently gotten back into serious wrenching. Last time was when I was young and had the base hobby shop at my disposal. Now I finally have a big four car garage with air, etc.

Spend time with your kids. You'll be back. ;)

y8s 02-19-2013 02:01 PM

can't afford a garage --> no project cars

Pretty much all the same reasons I got rid of mine. It was just time to move on. I had just gotten into a motorbike accident and had to use the miata as a daily. I was on the highway driving home at night when an Audi 4S decided to have some fun. Looked down and I was doing well over double the highway speed... yeah, I realized then that it was time. I can see picking up another miata in the future as a track only vehicle. Hopefully the owner you sold it to is competent and appreciates the car.

Cycle of life? Global rebalancing? MiataTurbo.net is turning in to NoMiataNoTurbo.net?

Same but my pull over was related to 'oh sorry, I couldn't see your license plate in the window'.

This comes down to restraint in rough areas or cold pavement, doesn't it (not criticizing)? I think I know what you mean though.

My wife is encouraging this line of thought, her suggestion is MS3 or WRX as a dd and leave the miata as is. We're having a kid soon and she's sad that she won't get to ride in the car with me much but suggests we keep it anyways.

y8s 02-22-2013 04:07 PM

if I want restraint, I'll buy a slower car with better traction!

18psi 02-22-2013 04:11 PM

I love driving a fast car very slowly and calmly, and just KNOWING that it has a metric buttload of power that I can unleash at will.

The answer is the WRX (or derivative), they fit kids seats but they're just not on the cheap end of things.

18psi 02-22-2013 05:08 PM

he doesn't want a wrx cause its not gay like a mini cooper

jamesr242 02-24-2013 12:58 PM

I always regret selling vehicles... Especially bikes and cool cars such as the miata. Hopefully I never have to sell mine!
