Odd tow strap issue...

The last time I towed my car in the trailer I strapped it down by the front and rear tow hooks. The straps are 3000# or higher straps. I cinched them down pretty tight and locked them down and when I arrived at the track about an hour and a half away they had loosed up a bit. They did the same thing on the return trip. :vash:

Car settled, straps don't tighten themselves. I always check the straps after a few miles.

Might try tying down at wheels, a-arms. Basicaly somewhere un-sprung.
Should minimize most off the settling issues.

Do you have enough wrap on the strap ratchets? Increasing that helped with a similar loosening problem on my trailer.

as an aerial transporter in the usaf:

What are your strapping angles? Make sure you strap it somewhere a ballpark of a 45 degree angle, so not only it stops the car in aft restraint, but lateral. When that car is bouncing the straps are settling and loosening up.

I tie my car down through the spokes on the wheels. Front 2 go straight, and rear 2 cross each other.

^Crossing is key IMO.

Pen2_the_penguin 08-26-2012 01:42 PM

crossing is only good for a really bouncy vehicle, like a truck. Crossing allows for more horizontal side restraint when there is very limited room for a tiedown point on the outer sides. (A trailer)

I wouldnt tie anything to a suspension piece (wheels included) unless I had to. Thats asking for trouble.
