oil filter

what's a better oil filter for the 1.6 maybe from a different car? would a longer filter be better? it would make it easier to change them :noob:

When I was a tech, I noticed the longer filter used on late-model Nissans and some Hondas fit, but was longer than the stubby one recommended. I don't know if bigger is necessarily better though.

When I went into PEP Boys once for a filter they asked me if I wanted the optional larger filter. I checked the book and it showed a second choice. These are the number choices and I'm sure you can cross reference it to the brand you prefer.

Purolator L14610
AC PF2057
Wix 51356

I've used the Purolator on all my Miatas since 1996.

Advance auto parts AA7317 - same as purolator PL14610. $3 and about 50% bigger. same oil pressure as stock.

I put a millenia filter on my 1.6, no fitment problems

Who's making that filter?? There are some I just won't use. I only pay 3 dollars for the Purolator filter anyway, unless I catch a sale and get them for about a buck after the rebate.

I went to the parts store and bought 2 filters, one for my 99 Civic SI and the other for the Miata. Did the Miata oil than went to do the Honda, and noticed the Honda filter was on the Mazda. About and inch longer but fit fine.

lol that last was funny. so a millenia eh any idea what year/engine?

kotomile 03-31-2008 12:28 AM

Just ask for the filter for an Xterra, Civic with D17 or K series, etc. It's all the same filter.

Honda B18x-series filter = Mobil1 M1-104. That's the one I use. Bigger, but not so big it's hard to get in and out. If you need a cross-reference for another mfg, look up a '99 Acura Integra.

Apparently its made by purolator.

You could try looking through all of the after market manufactures specs pages and match up the threads / anti drain back valve, our filter is 20MMx1.5, same as most Hondas, Mitsubishis, and probably a lot of other imports. I'm running a Mitsubishi filter just because they are free to me, but its slightly larger, not large enough to really affect anything though. I looked through a Pennzoil book a while ago trying to find a larger filter that I could cross reference to a better brand, they didn't list a bigger one, but then again, they suck.

Just order 3 2-packs and get free shipping:

Bigger filters are overrated.
