Oil Filters.

I want to do an oil change tomorrow but I wont make it to the Mazda dealer. Why the Mazda dealer you ask? Thats simple, ever since I got my car I have been exclusively using mazda oil filters for my changes. I heard they are the best. So, since I wont make it to the dealer I need to get an alternative so I can do my change.

What filters do you guys use?

bosch......for no reason other than the fact that its mid-priced and the brand has a good reputation. i don't like buying cheap shit, and i don't want to drop huge bucks for the mobil1 filter.

Mobil1 M1-104. It's the spec filter for all of Honda's B-series engines. Same basic design as the Miata filter (thread, drainback valve, etc) but a slightly larger canister.

purolator PURE-ONE, not the standard purolator, dollar for dollar it's the best there is...i use them on all of my cars and every one in my family who's oil i change gets them also.

Whatever is on sale. I'm not too fussy, because changing oil at 3000 is well inside the lifespan of any filter.

Unless of course it's made by fram....stay away from fram!!

Thanks for the tip. Went to autozone, they didnt have the M1-108 so I got the M1-104. I did however compare it to the fram they had and the only difference was the size of the carnister and number of holes for the flow. Fram had 9 small holes, Mobil has 5 large ones.

I change my oil once a year so I dont mind spending a bit more.

The differences are going to be MUCH greater on the internal construction, go back and buy another mobil-1 filter and the fram filter, cut them both in half and tell me which one you think is superior....

Also...i hope you're joking about the once a year thing, even if you only track your car or drive it very sparingly, you still need to change it much more often than that!

Uhm. You want me to go buy a Fram filter because its superior to the Mobil that I bought or do you want me to get the correct filter for my car? Im so confused.

I also change my oil once a year(almost once a year) because i drive a total of 4k miles a year and never go to the track.

No i want you to cut them open so that you see the differences betwen the two that aren't visible from the outside...so that you see why fram sucks so much ass....or you can do a google search and come up with about 10,000 pictures of the same thing...that way is a little cheaper i suppose.

I use these too. They go on sale at Amazon quite often. Unfortunately since I'm no longer Mazda powered, I've probably got 6-8 sitting in my filter storage area. Maybe y8s wants them?

OOOOOOOOOOOH.

No need, I have heard about Fram oil filters and air filters from other sources, you are not the first.

cjernigan 06-25-2008 09:57 PM

Pure-One here too. They changed the filter coating to an abrasive material so you can grip it. The entire filter is now coated with something the consistency of sand. I also think the price went up compared to what I used to pay.

I use Brand X because I've always used brand x. they are the best. in my opinion. and I have a very strong opinion which means you should listen to it.

(mazda oem for the mpv--they're a little longer than stock)

Advance Auto Parts AA7317 - This is a V6 oil filter and is a rebranded Pureone filter. Lots of volume too. Costs $2.88.

Vashthestampede 06-26-2008 01:54 AM

Mobil 1 no question. Purolator is a second best.

Then whats the rush to get it done so soon?

DontPassTheFence 06-26-2008 05:29 AM

Pure-one or wix, whichever is cheaper at the time - although I wouldnt worry much about filters, as long as it fits and its not a Fram.

fmowry 06-26-2008 06:33 AM

http://www.amazon.com/Purolator-PL14...4476103&sr=8-1

$5.88 for 2 pure-ones after a $4 rebate. Buy 6 and get free shipping. But you can only submit 2 rebates per household.

Wix here too, seems to be the best made filter I've seen. I am seriously considering cutting a bunch of different brands open just for laughs, but then again, even if the filter is made very well, I have no idea about the actual filter media.

EDIT: you guys are all using the larger Millenia filter, right?
