Oil temp sensor in pan

I was curious as to what you guys have seen/done for installing a gm coolant temp sensor in the oil pan. I was going to drill and tap just above the oil drain.

I have the trans out, and can remove the passenger mount and using a ratchet strap pull the engine to the drivers side giving me enough room. I am just curious if the aluminum is too thin and might present leaks.

I guess the other option would be to just put the sensor in the oil drain plug and run it like that until I swap in a built motor and have a bung welded on the pan.

I bought a replacement oil drain plug, drilled and tapped it for the sensor. Works great. This can also be done for the trans and rear end. One gauge, three selector switch to choose which temp you want to see.

I will be running all my sensors thru MS, just trying to figure out if I want to do a digital dash or just run a gauge like diyautotune sales and just run that.

I really wanted to put the sensor on the pan, but I dont have the means to pull the engine at the moment, if I were home I would have but out of town and no cherry picker. I may do just that and put the sensor in the drain plug for the time being.

Did the same, sensor in the drain plug. Works like a charm.
