Painting My Kosei K1's (56k: Hate Life)

So the history is:

I picked up a pair of Kosei K1's 16x7 to replace my Enkei RS7 17x7s. Weight comparison Kosei =13.5lbs Enkei= 17 lbs. I found the ad on craigslist for a set of "well used Kosei" with new tires. I picked them up that weekend for 250 dollars. They had road rash and were really missing their stickers. So I immediately talked to Brain and read his painting FAQ. Following the color decision I picked up some Duplicolor Wheel Paint, a free Spanish newspaper, sandpaper, and begin my task. A couple key points: its definitely noticable if you sand after your final heavy coat of clear, and follow that up with a final coat of clear. I managed to pick up some new stickers for them free via TireRack (thanks Brain) for that final touch. Follow that up with a re-clear.
Here is the pictures, more to come:

Yeah that really makes you wonder...

Exhondaman 05-25-2007 07:24 PM

I believe the Notecard Defense Program was part of Reagan's Star Wars Missile Defense System, but i digress. That's ingenious. I wish I thought of that when i spent an hour masking off my steelies.

Looks good.

I kinda like the white, why not just respray in white?

Newbsauce 05-26-2007 06:58 AM

I have a white car with stripes... matched the stripes

Pitlab77 05-26-2007 08:54 AM

We need photos, because that sounds kida neat (the matching your stripes)

Braineack 05-26-2007 11:35 AM

if he ever gets his damn car back

Newbsauce 05-26-2007 08:10 PM

Yeah I kind of hired a specialty shop.. Being a specialty shop that means they only work the minimum amount of hours they need to in order to support their racing habit (RX-7s and Spec Miata). I should have pictures in the next few weeks of the car. As for the stripes you can see them on the avatar or the MT.net banner.

dedonderosa 06-21-2007 10:41 PM

Delhole94 07-27-2007 05:19 AM

--> so what you did step by step??? I tried on mine but they still look dusty/sparkly. they don't look set like in the finished product on yours.
I washed
sanded
sprayed (color)
sprayed (clear)
I probably did something wrong...

The card thing is f'ing GENIUS!!!

Brain, you do live up to your name.

danscreations 07-27-2007 11:34 AM

Where did you purchase the stickers? I asked tirerack about them when I order mine and they told me they didn't have any and couldn't get any. One of the deciding factors of why I didn't paint mine.

Braineack 07-27-2007 11:46 AM

that's where he got them from.

i only think it's becuase he's ordered from them in the past. They are usually good about things like that.

kotomile 07-27-2007 05:49 PM

Damn I thought I was the only one who used the card system.

Hahaha, hay Koto, yesterday on the news, there was a stolen SRT4 from the dealership, and last night, we found it in a les chwab parking lot ( on stalkers and had the dealer papers on the window) and surprisingly, they didnt take none of the gauges, pillar, turbo stuff, ic, SEATS or anything! Those seats are badass!

Ben 07-27-2007 06:21 PM

everyone knows,
when you steal a car, park it in a mall or shopping center parking lot for 24-48 hours before bringing it in. That way if it has LoJac, the cops recover the car from the parking lot, instead of from your chop shop.

:gay:

zoom2zoom 07-27-2007 08:31 PM

where is the sticky for painting them?

kotomile 07-28-2007 02:27 AM

Another OT: Funny thing about most SRT4 owners is they talk about it like it's some hardcore barely street legal monstrosity ("Oh the seats are soo harrrd"/"It rides rough because it has 'race suspension'"/"I bought an SRT4 because it's light"/etc)

I bought it because it has 4 doors, a decent trunk, and can haul groceries and my infant. :gay:

[/OT]
