Painting/powdercoating wheels

My 6ULs are looking sort of assy. I don't clean them enough and most of the time they have way too much brake nastiness all over them and the car looks like shit. I drive for two weeks after cleaning them and they're all ugly again. I have the silvers and they always look like they're mostly black. shitty black.

do i have any options for powdercoating or painting my wheels? i want them to be ultra-flat black, the color of brake dust. I want something durable. I don't want it to chip or flake off and look even worse. DIY or shop technique is fiene. And yes, I know it will add weight.

BBQ grill paint is the best.

johndoe 03-12-2008 02:25 PM

simple green, sandpaper, spray? Maybe a matte clear coat?

Just an FYI not sure if you give a shit or not..

Examples of non-warranteeable conditions:

Powder Coating any portion of the wheel

btw what pads are you using?

Waxing your wheels can help with keeping the brake from really sticking.

You know what a good fix would be? Trading my bronze (always look clean) Helliums for your 6ULs. Win win!

IMO, this is one of those cases where the warranty isn't really much of a warranty anyway. Go for it.

Faeflora 03-12-2008 03:49 PM

seriously can anyone recommend anything other than barbq paint? will it even last? i would think it would chip and then i would have to touch up = lame :(

chalkboard paint, then you can write sportmax on them to fit in with the jdm kids too

They will make them just like new. I don't know which store is closest, but at the Dallas store it is $100/Ea if there is no damage, and $125/Ea if they need to fix and powder them.

They can do flat black (no clear coat)

or "brilliant" black

These were both done at the store in Dallas, where I used to work and my wife still works. Both cars are ours.

sandblast then powdercoat them flat black, simple as that.

And painting them with some shitty paint wouldn't affect warranty?

Get them powdercoated.

airbrush1 03-12-2008 06:44 PM

I could spray them with Hotrod flat black at the shop for you if you want. basically just scuff them down and shoot em. I'd have to ask what it would cost though It would be way less than 100 a wheel like powdercoat

miataz 03-12-2008 08:00 PM

100$ a rim to get powered coated mite as well buy new ones...
