Passed Smog

my 1990 Miata passed with flying colors. No trickery needed , passed the visual, passed the cat, passed them filling my tank with inert gas. And the numbers were surprisingly low, not even close to failing.

:x:  :skid:

Congrats! I wish I could say the same.....

How did you pass the visual?

my car has everything that is required for the executive number. :D The tech looked at a print out I had for my Bell kit, checked everything, said "yes it is all there, lets pass your car." And being that my car is OBDI they can't tell if the stock ecu is in it or not.

Congrats!! What did your numbers look like? What Cat did you have installed? I cannot get my car to pass the roller test always hits boost then the afrs get out of wack. I am in the process of going back to stock , the state has flagged my car as a polluter.

Qckslvr 01-21-2010 12:35 PM

CO2% @ idle 14.6, O2% 0.20, HC (max 120) measured 32, CO% (max 1.0) measured 0.00
CO2% @ 2500 rpm 14.7, O2% 0.30, HC (max 140) measured 36, CO% (max 1.0) measured 0.01
My AFRs stayed right in 15.0 to 15.5 range during the entire test. As you can tell I am quite happy with the results.

I am using a Magnaflow metal core cat that is for a 5.0 Mustang.

Thanks .
Do they not test for Nox in NorCAL?
I can not get my Nox #s down. CaT ?
Is the Mustang Cat a direct bolt up?

I didn't realize it was a kit with a EO# I thought it was a home brew.

Nice man, congrats. Glad I live in FL and don't have to worry about it, my car would not be doing so well.

We don't dyno smog in Monterey County, the ocean breeze keeps our air pretty clean.

You can try a cat converter, a new cat will always burn good and hot. You can also try "Smog in a Bottle" Kragens sells the stuff. After using it, you will need a new cat

The Mustang cat is not a direct bolt in, it was welded in before the new CA smog law requiring EO#s be stamped on the cat. (it was not supposed to be welded in but the muffler shop effed up). Also realize that since the new law NO muffler shop in CA will install an aftermarket or other than OE cat in your car now :( (but you can have them made out of state and shipped in).

Did you point out the Megasquirt? I did my car last summer and I skipped over that. I intended to say it was the timing device described in the EO but chickened out at the last minute.

my MS is still sitting on the bench since I got it back. So didn't need to point it out. :) but it wouldn't have been a propblem.

And never point out the MS that is an instafail.

kotomile 01-22-2010 09:15 PM

Glad for you, man.

You should've tried the smog method I used while in Cali... :D

Pen2_the_penguin 01-22-2010 09:31 PM

This maybe one hell of a mystery... but why are you cali folk are always friggin srewed when it comes to combustable fuel anything? I have a couple of buddies in sac with turbo'ed cars that have them registered here in NV just to pass the smog check.

thats great you passed tho!
