Pay extra for a 94-97 or 99+ tranny?
Yeah, I know this is my 3rd thread about transmissions but they are all different questions. I found an online Miata junkyard that sells trannys for:
90-93 = $300 (on sale for $250) 94-97 = $325 99+ = $375 Is there a reason to pay extra and get a newer tranny? |
newer tranny=less miles alot of times.

Wasn't there a better 1-2 syncro in '94+? I've had so many high powered cars with weak trannies that I forget if this was a Miata issue.

I'm working nights and getting ready to go to bed. My wife is leaving in a while to pick up a $200 115K '90. Everything else around here is $350 so I figure for the price it is worth the risk. The lowest mileage I could find was 95K.

From Randy's page:
All the guts of the Type 2's are nearly the same and mostly interchangeable. The major differences came in '81 when the shifter was made remote, in '83 where some bearings and shafts were made larger and in '94 with improved seals and a double cone 2nd gear synchro. Frank |
115K miles on a 17year old tranny doesnt sound too bad to me
|
I ended up with a 200$ 94 of unknown mileage... I would say shop around a little more unless those prices include shipping.
250 shipped sounds like a good deal to me if thats what it is. |
FM says that it is more than likely a broken shift pin. I'm not sure if that is the same as a roller pin or not. Anyone know what a shift pin is?
