Default New to the forum and check this dyno run

I am building a Locost car around a 1995 miata drive train. I have built a couple factory five roadsters and thought I would try some 4 cylinder action. The motor came out of a 1995 1.8L miata with 105k miles on it. I custom built the turbo around a T04E turbo system...all I can say os WOW...these motors are strong! at only 7psi I am quite happy.

Here are the numbers!

It's the new Electromotive Tec-S and we think the car weighs around 1400 lbs...we will put it on the scales today and see.

I smell something fishy. Incorrect dyno correction? Correct me if I'm wrong, but with your car being a locost, I'm thinking that a factory engine at 7psi with that turbo should be more in the 180-210 range. 240 is pushing it...

Again, this is only if I'm not missing any key facts about the car. 200 or 240hp it'll still be crazy at 1400.

nothing fishy....no tricks...Mustang MD250 dyno with weather station. The engine came out of a wreck...Did a compression check and threw it in there...no telling about the internals/cams and such. 610 cc injectors (match flowed), Race gas, 18 inch long exhaust pipe....not sure what else to say... we threw it up there and a hour and half later..done. IN any event...great motors!! In any event it's just numbers..we'll see how it runs! I will tell you that now that I think about it...the 7psi came from the ECU and now I am wondering if it isn't more, cause on the dyno screen it was creeping....I didn't think to look at the boost gauge...let me check the software and report back.

Here is my other car on the same dyno: 543HP / 650TQ to the ground 2550LBS..

and it feels like it

Nice cars. Race gas does explain some of it, but not all of it. I think something was off or more boost was occurring. On my GT3071 I wouldn't be able to make that much power without 9psi.

well, you were right! Sure enough my gauges have peak hold. Turned the key pressed the button and the needle went to 16 PSI!!! I noticed on the dyno run the KPA was sloped upward, but the software for the ECU showed a consistant level. Turns out the sensor setup screen was selected to the wrong MAP sensor... and was clipping at 7 psi. The dyno graph which we were disregarding was telling the truth! I have boost creep. So I make 7 -9 psi to about 4000RPM and then it slopes up to 16PSI by 6000RPM. This is why the curve looks this a votech supercharger curve not a turbo. Think we'll leave it alone and limit it at 6000RPM.

We also scaled it today. with 10 gallons of gas:

1375 GWT
51% rear axle
49% Front axle
50/50 side to side with me in it.

Welcome.
That is some serious power for 1400lbs. Normally I'd say its way too laggy (your torque is almost as linear as your power) but for the weight that its going to be pushing I SERIOUSLY doubt you need any more torque in the midrange lol
That thing will make people either laugh hysterically or kill themselves when driving it

I envy your cobra. OMG whats all done to it?

Thanks...this is my first try with import. How much psi will a stock block live with? I understand these things are pretty strong. I hope nobody hurts themsleves... I am going to sell it I think when I am done this spring.

The Cobra....Is a Factory Five Cobra...392W with a 66mm turbo (turbonetics) TKO 600 tranny, 3 link solid axle, seat heaters, 6 PSI (really this time ) . 3.27 gears....It has a TEC-GT Electromotive ECU.... runs really good! If I could figure out how to launch it I would have great ET...MPH in the 1/8 is 103!! I have a lot of other tricks in it... Gets 24 MPG HWY!!

Engine compartment looks ok too

HOL-EEEE-****
I am in love.
Wanna trade for a 3076 miata?

The stock internals usually handle up to 250whp. You can even push it to 300 but it starts to get REAL close to its limit and your tuning better be flawless.
Transmissions are also on thin ice past 250whp.

So the magic number is somewhere around 250whp in other words.

that's cool!

Trade... umm nope... but like this build, that too is for sell. It only has 6000 miles on it....did I mention it has NT01 autocross tires on it !!

thanks for the warm welcome and all the info!!

Nice car. I only wish I could build a bossted V8 car but that is a little bit out of my range, and awesome numbers out of someone who is new to the miata engine world. On another note you should build one of those with a 2JZ in it. It would absolutly fly. Welcome to the forum.

Yup. Like 18psi said though, you're on thin ice with your transmission. You should be okay if you're only pushing around 1400 lbs. That helps. I think. 250 is the magic number for the rods, anything above that and they bend. Forged rods go for roughly $300 though, so it's not a gigantic investment to upgrade them and get piece of mind. Keep in mind they've bent with lower hp numbers and aggressive/bad tunes.

Should we even ask how much?

Guess I might look for some rods for a piece of mind. The guy incharge of the tuning is Wayne Presley at VeryCoolParts.com. He is just the best guy for tuning, and getting all the go fast parts, oh....

15,000 for the locost
55,000 for the FFR

I'd check your boost log again, the boost is creeping like a mother ******. Your dyno suggest at least an increase of 4-5psi between 3000 and 6000.

There is absolutely no way you're making 240rwhp at 7psi at 6111rpm, sorry.

EDIT: Okay, I see that you have seen the light

Well if you like the power curve you could just leave it how it is. There's nothing wrong with ramping boost with RPM.

I just watched the video of the FF--- spectacular!
