Possibly new SR20 swap kit option!

http://www.mckinneymotorsports.com/index VS http://www.patiencecorner.org/

Mckinney Motor Sports make swap kits for older Z's, 510's, 240sx's useing RB's, SR's, VQ's as well as LS's. Mckinneys is located in Murrieta CA (Southern California) and they are well known throughout the Nissan and Datsun community.

I started thinking about the overpriced SR20 kit that has been made that is being offered over on CR.net. I decided to shoot Mckinneys an e-mail exspressing that there is interest in SR20 swap kits and that I was personally interested in a RB swap kit. I got a reply from the owner saying that it can be done and that they just need a car to build the first swap kit. After that Im assuming jigs will be made to produce other kits. This company is a made to order company (meaning you order and they build your order then ship it to you once completed)

Ill will talk with him more in the next few weeks to come to find out what pricing would be like, but from the prices listed on their website, they are very fairly priced! Ill also find out what kind of compensation there will be for the person that loans their car to them. If I cant find sombody that is interested in loaning a Miata to them I will begin to be on the lookout to buy a mockup car out in their area to get it underway. (That will be hard because Ill be on the East Coast)

Their mounts for RB's and SR's are priced around $500 verses what the other companys priceing, $1200 just for the mounts. McKinney makes a rear sump oil pan for RB's and list price on it is $800. The other company charges $2000 for a rear sump conversion pan for a SR20. McKinneys also makes a universale swap harnesses for the cars they make swaps for, so thats another possiblilty as well! The other company.....Not so much. :giggle:

Do yall see what im getting at here? Amazing quality at an affordable price! By no means am I knocking the other company, I just like seeing things done for an affordable price to give more people the oportunity to do something like this.

The RB rear sump oil pan

Their Datsun 510 cross member and trans mount! $250 each: http://www.mckinneymotorsports.com/p...R-KA+mount+kit

Thoughts?

Beware of bad fit and finish. A friend bought a swap kit for his 280Z and told me about the many issues they had with the fit of the kit. He was really pissed off at them.

I signed up over on NICOclub.com and havnt seen any bad reviews besides some small issues (nothing more promblematic than small issues we have with common aftermarket parts we ritually buy)

I've got a pretty much stock 1997 in so cal. I wouldn't mind leaving it with them in exchange for the swap kit. I've been leaning towards a ls-1 v8 swap, but an sr20 might be a little more economically feasible. Let me know if I can help.

that would be awesome! here is the email address: INFO@MCKINNEYMOTORSPORTS.COM

Shoot him a email saying that you have a car that can be used as a mock up car and ask him about compensation for him using the car for a while. You may very well get a free set of mounts out of it! :bigtu:

More talk with Mckinney!

We can do it, but must sell enough kits to re-coupe Cost of R&D and SET-up charges, would also do drive shaft, radiator and intercooler, down pipe and 3” exhaust… post up and if enough are interested we will find a car…to do it… Best guess is about $1200 on the pan and $800-900 on mounts due to the torque tube set-up.., but will have to get a car to see options…. Need to sell 10 kit to start off…

Just an FYI, rumor has it that Sikky is also working on a kit.

WonTon 03-30-2011 07:54 PM

Damn, looks like he makes some good quality shit!

The kit would have to be mighty cheap to sell well IMO - an SR swap is cool, but there are much more economical options.

Its Good to be brining this up. Im starting to plan my sr20 swap and I have a friend with a shop who has done alot of vq sentra swaps and wants to take the challenge of doing this. He's owned a miata before and knows his way around alot of nissan motors

turbotyla 03-31-2011 09:46 PM

i wouldnt mind swapping an sr to hold me over until i could afford an ls1 swap.

if the kit is cheap enouph it wouldnt be bad. If i is just a mount kit. It would be a great idea. they are cheap to build and they are all over the place.

chicksdigmiatas 03-31-2011 10:47 PM

Wait... VQ sentra swap... PICS?

Really if anybody wants to take on the job of making a affordable kit, more power to them. I just want to see a more affordable kit produced and offered to the public.

I wanna see this happen.

Idealy, just mounts, oil pan and a wireing harness would be awesome. The average joe can have a drive shaft made. (just gotta go to a drive shaft shop) That other kit is just way to over fuckin priced!

the sikky stuff is ten times better, if your doing an rb25 swap in an s14 just source a r33 crossmember it bolts into the s14 with no mods and fits the engine with sikky motor mounts like a glove, i had the mk kit for the rb25 in my s14, it bring the engine up too high, bad hood fitment, do it right with the crossmember or a sikky kit. i opted for the crossmember and sikky m-mounts and sold my mk kit. couldnt have been happier

livemind 04-01-2011 02:29 AM

or do a built KA-T :)

WonTon 04-01-2011 03:24 AM

I dont think Ill ever own a 240sx. lol I have drivin a few, never felt quite right to me!

bayside blue 04-01-2011 08:59 AM

from searching around ive found a couple motors(black tops) for $800 with ecu and wiring harness and ive seen a quite a few 6 speed's for < $1,000.. figure thats not a whole lot more then a good 99 motor and 6speed and with just some bolt ons and bigger turbo 400whp isnt out of reach and ive been reading that there are quite a few with 350-400whp and they are fairly reliable.
