So I just installed a new Timing belt, water pump, Camshaft Seals, Crankshaft Seal, and valve cover gasket in my 92 Greddy turbo Miata. Got it all put back together and the car won't start. The timing is set to TDC(hard to see in pics, but it is). I had two other people working on this with me and I made a few trips to get stuff, so I think that maybe the cams got turned or something. Or maybe the sprockets aren't set to the cams quite right. Here are some pics of what it looks like. All the pics are taken with the Timing set at TDC. Are my sprockets set right? Are my Camshafts as they should be when it is at TDC. What is wrong?
Here is a picture of how the sprockets are set. Are they put on properly? Is the little KNUB things on the Camshaft in the right position on the Sprockets? NOte: the pic is taken at a bit of an angle, but the timing really is at TDC


Here is how the Cylinders are at TDC...are they right?

Was the notch on the crank shaft lining up with the notch on the engine? You're probably off a tooth somewhere.

If I remember correctly, the pin in the timing gears should correspond with which gear it is. That is, the pin should be in the slot that corresponds with the position of the gear. Yours are reverse of that.

The pin in the exhaust cam should be in the slot marked E on the cam gear, and so on.

look at the cam lobes...but it looks right to me. I haven't looking in the head in a few months.

Another way to say it is the dowel pins should be straight up when the camshaft pulleys are in the position shown.

As stated in the previous posts, your cam gears are set on the wrong slots within the gears. Furthermore, when everything is aligned, the lobes of both camshafts on the #1 cylinder should be pointing away from each other (horizontally).

Yep guys...shortly after posting my original post I found a pic on Miata.net of how the lobes should look for cyclinder #1. It didn't take long to realize my mistake. Thanks to everyone for the input. I got it fixed have it sold already, so that is good. The guy is picking it up tomorrow.
