Default Trading my 944 for TurboMiata!!!!

I'm picking it up Monday, Its a 92 vert w/ 140k miles and ~50k on rebuild. My 944 is a 85 and has 86k original miles. I love the car but Ive just always wanted a good turbo Miata weekend car to play with. I am new to teh Miata scence but Ive owned about 15 rx-7s in my 38 years so i know everything Mazda from 78-95! JUst not alot about the 1.6 lol

Heres a few pix and one of my 944. Also a list of the Ole' school mods!

Garrett AR.70 turbo @8psi
ebay manifold [i was impressed]
Custom intercooler w/ turbonetics couplings
HKS type s BOV
HKS intake
HKS VPC [i know its ancient but it works good and i will b upgrading]
Sebring timing controller[ same as above]
Autometer pillar A/F and PSI gauges
Ground controls W/ kyb agx all brand new
FM bushings and motor mounts
Sportmax 962 17x7 17x9 Yes i know there too big
Toyo Proxes
RB Type 1 nose
New top less than 6mos old
AC and PS delete
SOla Luna shorth shifter and ****

Theres a few things i am forgetting but these are the significant mods. I drove the car and it was very solid and stable. It does, as should be expected, have some lag due to the huge snail under the hood. But it pulls very very hard after about 35-40mph.

It has been repainted and the car has no rust. none.
Oh yea, also has the 1.8 open diff, actually the whole turbo and manifold is for a 1.8. but was matted to this 1.6. I do not have any numbers but i am gonna assume its prolly around 160 -170hp.

Lemme know what you guys think. And agian, i know the turbo is too big and the wheels are too big and the VPC is old so please spare me with the comments on that crap. Anyone reading this from SAn Antonia or Austin Pm me asap!

LOL thanks Buffon, ya the 944 is clean and turns alot of heads. But its just too much to have maintained. I mean a clutch job is about 1500 and that to me is just absurd. Actually i was looking to get back into teh rotary scene but once i rode in a friends miata turbo....well the rest is history!

Tell me about it. I mean its a great built car and drives really well. But its just because it has the Porsche name on it you get raped at the shops. Its not even hard to work on but you gotta have a ''special'' tool to work on everything.

Im gonna miss it, but I'm sure the lil miata will not dissapoint! I will be getting some wheels ASAP Im sure i wony have a prob selling them as they are only 6mos old and the tires have at least 80% on them.

Prolly sell em to one of my Rx-7club.com brothers, those will look good on a fc! Of course its gonna have to be a 86-88.

225/35 front 245/35 rear
the rears are a little stretched but you would have to hit a bump pretty hard to scrape the wells. I see you are from Jax! I moved here from Tally about a year ago. I miss the panhandle sometimes man but Austin is the best town Ive ever lived in.

We're part of a small group running larger than a 225 tire. But we also have heavy wheels so take it for what you will. Yea I'm alittle north of jax. I like it out here but hate all the rain sometimes. So what do you think you might do for a smaller turbo?

well im not sure yet. I mean this thing does have a lil lag as mentioned, but i would go with a slightly smaller turbo providing it would be a complete bolt up and i would not have to mod anything. These particular A/R .70 Garretts are very sought after fro the V8 guys and from what i see the Grand National guys too.

These things are not cheap either i about rolled on the ground when i saw what they were going for!

ehat do you have in store? Got some pix? shoot me some pix of your ride dude..bmfrye@yahoo.com

I guess i'm the only one who actually likes 17'' rims on a Miata.. just needs to be dropped over them though.

Ya i dont mind the way some 17's look either. I think it just has to bee the right combination. And actually the car does sit a wee bit lower now with the Coilovers and dampers. I will post pics of the car asap. This coming monday!!

And another thing thats going is the Style Bar! So if anyone wants that please Pm me. I'll gladly sell it for cheap.

I was actually thinking about stepping up from my .50ar to a .70ar sometime soon but I haven't gotten my car back on the road yet from building the engine. Here's a link to my build thread https://www.miataturbo.net/build-threads-57/johnmatts-half-assed-build-43656/

Looks awesome man! I am gonnna get with you and talk to you about a possible swap. Ill pm you my # and we can BS about it, this unit is in really good shape. It does have a very very small leak from a gasket going bad. I can see the soot on the hood just above the hot side. Other than that its really tight and no cracks or anything to speak of.
