Default b6ze+dsmlink+Ford Festiva=way too much fun??

I am selling my rat rod to pay off my wife's debt and sticking all my 4g63 related parts into a new car that will become a dedicated full time race car that we are making a 1200 mile round trip for this weekend. I cannot drive the truck like a maniac like I want to. I am super bored with dsm's and have been venturing out the past few years into other platforms. And once the truck is gone I will not have a backup vehicle/around town toy. A car that has always intrigued me is the Ford Festiva once I found out guys could make them fast. Once I started learning more I found out how primitive the B6T and BPT powered cars are for tuning. I am just super spoiled with dsmlink.

I have always like the Miata but, cannot get around the shitty, useless(for my needs) chassis. I daily drive a Geo Metro but, at least it has some cargo area. Then I have seen a few folks have great luck using Mitsubishi ecu's in the NA 1.6 miatas. So given my love for turbos, the B6ZE having plenty of support and the Festiva being able to accept most small Mazda engines fairly easy, I say why not. The chassis I could have a ton of fun with and hurt some feelings in a complete turd. From what I clam seeing, the BPT, B6T and B6ZE all seem very close on how they mount in cars and the physical characteristics of the engines. I think it would he pretty easy to hit 1500lbs and 250-300hp with my 15 years of extensive tuning experience and my extreme availability of E85 in my area I could make a fun street car. And given the support of the B6ZE and the capabilities of dsmlink it really could be the sky is the limit project and bring silly, ridiculous smiles for miles.

What do you guys think? I have already seen a few pictures of this engine swap out there. Maybe not as retarded as what I have in my head but, if anyone is dumb enough to follow through with it, it is me. I mean, we did a true ground up build with a 4g63 800hp 556tq rat rod, home made frame and all. Like I said, take an engine I would not mind playing with, take the tuning program I love and stuff it in a chassis my wife and I can at least do stuff with almost sounds like a no brainer and could be a hero car without much effort.

Trying to run it on a Mitsubishi is kinda dumb when you can just run a Megasquirt. I know of more than a few people who have done BP swaps into the Festiva and it's a lot of motor for a very small car.

I've played around with DSMlink before. God-aweful compared to megasquirt in my opinion.

Also the miata chassis is great, so when you say "s***ty" you should clarify the statement with what I think you were getting at: is not a hatchback grocery getter with tons of storage space and good for freeway pulls.

Most people here find the chassis you think is desirable as junk, because most people here about corners and not straightline speed.

Also my friend retired his festiva because it was literally splitting in half. The welds on the chasssis were giving away and everything forward of the firewall was literally splitting off due to the torque his setup was making. Re-welded a few times and then called it because even without it splitting the car is deathly terrifying to drive. It's basically a coffin on wheels, and not in any good sort of way.

Anyways, 1500 is not out of the question, but won't be as easy as you think. 1800 is def possible.
250-300whp is not hard at all, but again - you'll be dealing with a chassis that was designed for 60hp, and it will want to literally come apart on you

Good luck.
It's definitely satisfying to hurt feelings in a turdbox like that. We do it on a regular basis.

First and foremost. The Miata is not totally worthless. If I am going to have a second car it has to be functional and there is no denying a Miata is limited in its uses. I do own four dogs and will likely be adding a fifth this year. I have been using dsmlink for 13 years now and to think megasquirt is superior is just speaking blindly, especially if you have no actual evidence to refute that dsmlink is horrible. We have two 800whp cars, two 1000whp cars and I just finished tuning and building a friends talon and we made right at 1100whp with his car on a 83mm turbo. To say that dsmlink is garbage is just incorrect. It works very well. I even just sent a car to California two weeks ago for a friend that he will be continuing to road race out there. So that platform works for all forms of motorsport. Granted, I am a straight line racer unlike a lot of folks here. The fact is though we actually travel and race our cars all over the country. From the salt flats, to standing mile events and the typical drag strip. Not saying guys here don't do the same, I am not just some random dude talking out of my ***. We know the Mitsubishi platform very well and have been racing it for over 15 years. With the ease of the electronics swap(for me and my comfort zone) I figure why not explore and have some fun. I am not looking to break any kind of records or look for any fame. Just wanting to try some weird project that will leave us laughing each time we drive it. Of course the Festiva is a piece of ****. That is what is attracting me.

With that said, is my research correct in that the smaller, older Mazda motors are all very close in shape and size? Anyone seen or heard of a Festiva running your beloved B6ZE and actually utilizing their car in some fashion and not just hitting road blocks and giving up?

I am sorry but, not really at the same time about how I come off. I have been racing for 20 years and like to think we have things down to a science here and there is not too many hurdles we cannot cross and succeed at. My friends and I all share a lot of success when it comes to playing with cars.

Apparently you can't read. I didn't say DSMlink is garbage. I have used it, as well as megasuqirt. Peak power potential tells me nothing about the ecu itself, and if you're as smart as you make yourself out to be, you of all people should know that. It's not hard to make a ton of power, especially on a DSM/Evo. There are world record cars tuned with Megasquirt, both the standing mile and the salt flats, and it is one of the most commonly used tuning platforms in the world. That's right, I didn't mis-type that. You need to brush up on reading comprehension.

13, 15, 20 years..........you keep talking yourself up, and no one is even remotely caring, because you have yet to prove anything to us with a mazda BP or B6.

I can say I've been tuning cars for 140 years, and invented cars. See how pathetic that sounds? You prove your worth with actions, not words. What that means is you make a build thread for a festiva and show us your skills, with said festiva. Not talk yourself up like the typical douchebag DSM owner that thinks all cars are as easy to make power on as a DSM.
I don't care what you've done outside of the BP world, I've been tuning subaru's and evo's for many years now too.

But back on topic: your "research" is hilarious. I'll go one step further: ALL 4 CYL ENGINES are all very close in shape and size.

Mind = Blown, right?

I guess with 26,000 posts I should bow down to you. Or just ignore you because you are a forum *****. Anyone else care to interject on how similar the engines are for swapability as it would be nicer to have some sort of tuning capacity to it.

And for the record, I would likely choose AEM before megasquirt as I have experience there as well. One being a blown 600cc motorcycle that holds numerous scta class records. I am just an average Joe. Lets get that right out there. But will stand up for myself and being a douche when it is necessary. Glad I came back in here to be attacked by the guy with the most posts. I have actually been a part of this forum for a long time and lurked even longer. Not much I really have to prove to you. Again, is this neat little B6ZE something the other Mazdas swap in commonly or no?

Oh look at there, I have even been a member of this forum longer than you. And obviously less whoring and trolling. Iam glad you think I am not worthy to play with this platform. Because miatas are the end all you know.

On a lighter note, that little white four door car is what got the wheels turning more seriously about this lately. That car is what I picture myself messing around with. Perfect turd for some fun. Back to work. I will check in later in hopes of some more intelligent conversation rather than senseless bickering with a total stranger. My ego has nothing to do with the car I drive. And to make it even better, I have not owned an actual DSM in almost ten years. Just stuffed their hearts into everything else I can.

OP, do these things.
Buy your parts, put parts together, take pictures, document it on the forums.

I don't understand the point of this thread and what you are asking.
To much talking, not enough doing.

Edit* If your half as smart as you say you are, you would explore Megasquirt and maybe learn yourself something.

I think- 4G to B6 is a step down in engine, wrong wheel drive, stuck with weak driveline and trans options, lots of work for inferior solution...

If I were hating the Miata for it's lack of practicality and had a strong DSM background, I'd be looking at DSM products with more doors and seats. This:

For some reason I take great joy in how predictable threads like these always are.

Noob: proposes insane plan.
Everyone points out why it's stupid.
Noob: Eff you guys! I've got XXX certification and I've built 50 cars with 200000whp running turbocharged nuclear engines! I know what I'm talking about! Just be nice and provide much needed validation!

Good luck with your festiva. Report back on how it goes.

Yeah i don't think i'd step down from a 4g63 to a Mazda B motor of any kind.

Was your point to come on here, flaunt a bunch of stuff you think you know about things we specialize in, at the expense of building a shitbox of a car using inferior parts to what you already have available in the Mitsubishi world?

You're doing a great job so far.

Also lost HARD at this:

Beloved? Clearly you haven't done much reading.

1) Nobody actually likes B6s. Nobody.
2) We don't like Miatas because of the motor. We like Miatas.

Please blow up as many B6ZEs as you can. It'll make the world a better place.

Already have one of those sitting in front of my house.
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8u8.../preview?pli=1

And we have a 3 door can in the stable as well. I never said I was stepping away from the 4G63. My rat rod's heart is going back into a quirky FWD Mitsubishi. We have been racing fwd's for ten years now. We love them. And this car solidified our love for FWD.

I will sell you my B6 or trade for BP4W or Z3. It would be hard to do, but sometimes when you love something, you have to be able to let it go.

I have asked it numerous times now. What do you folks know about the NA motor going into the shitbox known as a festiva? All the interwebs say the BPT and B6t are similar motor mounting and bellhousing patterns.

Just trying to repeat more stupidity like this.

Bellhousing should be identical. Are you just looking for an engine that came from mazda with a turbo stock? If so, you would be a lot better off fabbing your own kit with any BP variant. B6 is a waste.

This is a little side project I am doing for a friend as he had has a lot of trouble. I have taken the program over and looking for mid to high 8's at altitude this year. Already shaken it down to mid 150 mph traps first trip out. You know, because I am some idiot who has no clue on life
