PPF delete/front differential mount from KMiata
 

There’s been some buzz about our new differential mount and it’s time to share some pictures and details.

This is a bolt-in solution for securing the front of a 94-05 Miata 1.8 diff with the PPF (power plant frame) removed on an NA or NB Miata. No fabrication is needed like other options on the market. And unlike most homebrew solutions, our setup also incorporates a 88A poly bushing to reduce NVH.

The idea behind this product is that the Miata final drive ratios pair well with our Getrag 260 5-speed and ZF 6-speed transmission upgrade kits. Many of our customers doing BMW trans upgrades have opted to swap to a GM Getrag diff, which often isn’t necessary for 300-400whp cars. This mount is the final piece to a complete bolt-in trans upgrade for a BP or K series powered car.

The lower subframe brace is made of 1x2.5” steel bar, and the upper mount is machined out of 6061 aluminum. Everything is powdercoated or anodized to prevent corrosion, and all necessary zinc plated hardware is supplied. The aluminum mount is machined so the poly bushing sits at a 1.5 degree angle, which provides OEM driveline geometry.

We’ve logged a lot of hours on track with this setup, and have done many hard launches and burnouts including some on a 350+wtq car. Wheel hop is significantly reduced over a car with the factory PPF. The entire setup weighs about 4 lbs.

Introductory pricing is $299 and they will be available for order at kmiata.com shortly. We have a large batch of the machined mounts on the shelf, and we’ll have more of the lower braces in stock and ready to ship next week. Users must also pair this mount with upgraded rear mount bushings (we carry the Energy bushings for $65 a set). If you plan on launching the car, we also recommend reinforcing the ears on the diff housing.

Note that the initial product release includes a rear brace that's specific for NB subframes, and must be paired with the 99-00 style rear subframe brace (or a modified 01-05 brace). We’re also making an NA8 brace now, which requires some extra structure due to the location of the lower mounting holes. Unfortunately NA6 guys will need to upgrade to one of the newer style subframes.

Nice work and have been looking forward to this for a while!

Use the 6 speed BMW crossmember kit and weld a tab running forward and drill holes for mount bushings you provide and bolts. You can use the stock mounting holes on the trans.

But if you have a stock trans and diff the PPF is much lighter than any other option.

But no ppf is much less pain in the ass than having a ppf.

And an additional mount to soak up BP paint shaker vibrations while doing MORE to limit gross feeling movement is also a plus. Will be ordering this after MATG.

I just learned today that V8R makes a Miata trans rear mount. So you PPF haters can have your wish with off-the-shelf parts.

Sell a brace to tie the rear of the front subframe together and I'll buy it. Doesn't even have to mount anything. Bargain.

OEM from an NB. Or from a million aftermarket sources starting from about $35.

Mine has a removable cross brace on my 96 also the ties the two rear points of the front subframe together just behind where the lower control arms mount

We still don't have these on the website but we've already shipped out a few sets. If anybody needs one before they are live on the site just let me know.

My problem is I need something to fit this. I might just have to get out the welder.

Sure. Looks like the oem stuff will work just fine.

Or break out the welder. I don't stick metal together, myself, but i gotta imagine it would take at least 20 minutes to whip up a straight bar with some holes in the end.

Bumping this back up because we now have the rear mounting brackets available for NA8 rear subframes. So now any 1.8 diff in a native 1.8 chassis can be supported with a simple bolt-on setup. 1.6 cars will still need to grab a 1.8 rear subframe when they upgrade to the 1.8 diff.
