Pressure Plate Bolts

I accidentally over-torqued my pp bolts, none of them broke but I'm sure they've all stretched. Does anyone have a set of good ones they'd like to sell or know the Mazda part #?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks!

Any idea whether or not universal ones like these are any good?

Stock bolts? I think I've got a set for you for the price of shipping costs. My lightweight flywheel was threaded with a different pitch thread so I had to buy new bolts and didn't get to re-use the old ones. I think they are sitting in the garage.

how far did you go with tq? they only need 18-20 ftlbs.

~50 ft/lbs, but I was going to 70. I was following a write-up on my phone and had mixed up the flywheel and pressure plate torque specs. I got to around 50 ft/lbs and thought something wasn't right.

Whoops, I mis-read your message. The P/N I listed above is for the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crankshaft.

The diagram is a tad hard to read on these, so I'm attaching the image. It looks like 99753-78118, but you should check with the parts guy to be sure.

Or just take up sixshooter on his offer. :D

I fail. No bolts. Well there are bolts, just too many of them. I apparently chucked them in my box of loose nuts and bolts and can't tell which ones are the pp ones now. If I knew which ones they were I'd send them. Somebody help him out, please.

I've found these:

http://www.racepages.com/products/in...Mazda&md=Miata

Unfortunately, there are two sizes listed:

3/8'-16 x 1'
5/16'-18 x 1'

Gonna have to take one of mine off and measure, but now I'm worried about my flywheel-to-crank bolts too, so I'll probably pull those too. Then, on the same parts website, they have many different options. Ughhhh.

It's cool man, I appreciate the help and I'll probably just order a new set.

Both my wrists are jacked up from auto accidents. After my right one went limp, I decided it was time for a Miata.

5/16' - ~27 x 1'

I've measured them and this is what they measure. They definitely aren't 18, they're much finer. 27 doesn't really fit on 100%, but it's pretty close.

ftjandra 05-31-2010 11:09 PM

I am pretty sure that they are M8x1.00...which if you convert over to inch is ~5/16-25.

The good news is that if you can get the pitch figured any proper length grade 8 or better bolt will be asolutely fine. I have always used just a dab of blue Loctite on them as well, no issues. But the pitch should be right on, not just close. Close might get loose over time, resulting in much swearing and gnashing of teeth.

Damn, Macho man those things on there why don't you? :giggle: Typically smaller bolts means lesser torque. At least you caught it at 50lb/ft and realized it wasn't right. Those in particular, I always found hard to leave at the stock specs, as it doesn't feel like enough to me. Always want to give them an extra 5-10lb/ft, or a little extra ass.

Yeah, you're right. I decided to stop being lazy and fish out my metric gauge.

I'll call Mazda tomorrow and prepare to get buttfucked. It always takes them an entire goddamn week to get small parts like this.

y8s 06-01-2010 10:11 AM

a grade 8.8 is more than enough for those bolts.
