pressure washing the tranny mishap
So ive been working on my project car and decided to clean the donor engine/tranny before i put her in. Took off the tranny sprayed some engine degreaser everywhere and went to town. Got her all sparkly clean like fresh from the factory. I put her verticle and thats when i noticed a few small rocks/dirt in the driveshaft end. I wiped them out but im sure a couple fell in. they were all less than a size of a BB What do i do????
Does this mean i have to pull the gearbox and clean the whooole thing? anyone... ideas? |
I dont think its too bad but thats just me.

So a bit of trash went in the tailshaft? If so, I believe you can remove the tailshaft fairly easily and clean it up.
|
should i flush it with some cheap motor oil? i believe its all the way in the front
|
Ah screw it. ive never taken the tailshaft off before and im gonna start. Haha mine as well right?

drain the tranny fluid first!

Support it vertically (with the end out of the dirt this time) and flush it from the fill or drain holes down through the tailshaft. 5 gallon bucket would probably work here.
On my sixspeed I could flush it from the shifter back through the tailshaft; I haven't seen the miata's 5 speed up close and personal to say if that would work the same. I wouldn't flush it with anything other than the transmission fluid you are currently using or plan to use. |
