Default transmission swap

My friend is considering buying a 91 miata its a great deal the only problem is that its a automatic. What all is involved in the swap, I did a search and came up with no full list who can do it?

Not what you are looking for in an answer but my 2 cents:

The vehicle would have to be really cheap (sub $1000 and in decent shape) or I would just look for a stick car...there are plenty of them.

Unless you had a donor vehicle at hand, it might turn into a long term project digging out small parts from different people.

Not worth the trouble.

Andy,
I'd suggest searching on miata.net. I have read a few threads over there about this topic and I'd guess that there is more info over there than here. I'd agree with MrTonyG that it may turn into a huge hassle, but if you want to do it, then go for it.

A standalone megasquirt would make it a ton easier since you wouldn't have to swap a bunch of electrical stuff.

In addition to what you have you need clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, clutch pedal assy. miata.net garage has a writeup on it.
