Now post the link to where you found that pic and I'll give you another prop and stop bumping this thread. Currently on page 3 of the custom door cards thread on CR lol

I got that pic out of the Most Recent Shots of your Car thread. :giggle:

You'll want to check his build thread for his cards, specifically. Though... the door cards thread is kinda cool in general if you don't mind sifting through some ignorant swag shit. There's some really good ones in there.

Anyways, here's the build thread.

Check pages 15-17 on that build thread for the beginnings of his thuper thweet door panels. Also page 20 for aluminum speaker rings.

I'm planning to do some door panels like ozbrock posted at some point, but by the time I use carbon/ fiberglass/ or even vinyl you'll think the cut out area looks cool.
Frankly, I'd rather cut into a door panel than have to deal with door bars that hit my leg, esp as the car transitions from mostly street to mostly track.

The door panels can be replaced for about $30/ each. The seat takes seconds to remove. Door sill even less time. I'd never have been able to mount the race seat if I used bars that cleared the door panels.

The result is a much stiffer car (bigger change than any of my previous stiffening mods) and I'm happy with the results.

Cut your door panels? Gtfo.
Remove your seats/ door sills? Really?
Guess what I had to do to get my hard dog door bars to fit.
If you guessed "lay them in there and drill holes in the front floor", you're right. That was it.
I sliced the carpet and tucked it over the front mounts after I was done bolting it in.
If you have to notch your door panels/ remove sill plates/ do any other stupidity...something is wrong.

BTW, your a schmuck for posting this. I'd argue that bolting a door bar over carpet is retarded.

I didn't bolt my door bars over my carpet, they are directly bolted to the steel floor like they are supposed to be. The carpet covers up the bolt heads so it looks clean like it should, so where's your arguement?

I also didn't like that they mounted to the thin steel on the floor. so i sold the bars and ordered 1.75" DOM tubing. buddy had a tube bender and cutter. so we made our own. cost was under $100.

sorry for the old dirty photos.

Now that's what door bars should look like. But, even if you bolt to the floor, there's no reason to bend the tube unless you need to get around something.

Would a straight piece of DOM from the mounting place on the bulkhead to some other mounting place (as far forward as you care to go) interfere with something? If not then every commercially available door bar that I've seen is stupid less than optimal.

Sorry for digging up a year old post but, carnut169 what bucket seat is that?

I just installed mine in my NB, chopped up the door panels and all and my VS3 (I know, I know, crappy rep seat) doesn't fit with the stock sliders.

I'm contemplating either banging out the tranny tunnel or slicing up the left leg bolster... or just buying a seat that fits.

Corbeau...?

Thank you!! I glazed over that too but it didn't register. Must be all the beer.

BUT according to tech sheets, his seat's actually an inch wider at it's widest part on the leg bolster. Odd. I guess I'll try again tonight.

+1 don't think DaveC has ever been in a Miata.
