Question on Swapping Parts

I'll doing the following in my 91:

-Changing timing belt
-Swapping to 6 speed
-Changing to Torsen

Should I pull the whole motor + trans out as a single unit?

If so, would you weld on a bung at the oil pan at the same time? Or still go JB weld style?

It all depends if you want to do the Timing belt in the car or not. Changing the transmission isnt too bad although lining it back up takes some effort. The rear end will have to be in the car regardless.

Up to you. If it was me i would probably leave it but knowing me i would probably have some other things to add.

The timing belt is very easy to do in-car. Pull the fans and the radiator and you've got all the room in the world.

The transmission, on the other hand, is a bit of a pain in the ass. It's doable, but if you already have an engine crane I think it'd be easier in the long run to pull the motor and transmission as a unit. A bit more time consuming perhaps, but certainly less strenuous. Some of those bolts are truly a trial to reach, and bench-pressing the tranny back into place just plain sucks.

A word of advice, if you do opt to pull the whole assembly, loosen the big bolt on the crank pulley first. It's a lot easier when you're able to put the transmission in gear and lock down the parking brake.
