Overheating - Radiator Fan Wiring?!?!?
Curious what everone is running for wiring on aftermarket fans? Spliced into OEM, Linked Together (2x), Hardwired, etc?
I have one single 12" (or so) slimline fan and I have issues here and there with it (spliced into the oem wiring). I currently have either a bad relay or the wiring to the coolant temp sensor finally gave from rubbing through because it currently won't come on at all. No power to the connector but the fan works fine (with the ignition turned on; without car being started). Don't think it runs right now either with the car running. Either way I'm hooking the A/C back up and need the other fan so I'm putting another on. Not sure which method i should use. |
For a 16" 2700 CFM spal, I use the OE Link ecu fan trigger to send ground to a 40a relay (was using the fan thermswitch in same position) with a heavy gauge lead from the under hood fuse box + post to the + on the fan. No a/c solution. You could have a bad thermoswitch- just stick that lead to the chassis ground and your fan should come on. But if you're running two fans with the same switch, definitely install a new relay setup.

Seems to creep up to 60-70% to H when sitting and 50-55% when driving when the fans running all the time. Maybe a bad thermostat?!?! New waterpump (3mo ago), radiatior (year ago), no leaking colant/fluid, oils clean too. Stumped and fustrated. Really weird thing is it's cooler outside these last few days I've had issues by 30-40 degree's than usal. |
Agree- I'd check the tstat. Easy enough to do in a pot of boiling water. I had a new one that would stop only half way open. That was fun, especially after saying, "The tstat is brand new, so it couldn't be that."
