Default Volkswagen W12 swap???

I don't know, seems about as reasonable as most of the other swap threads over the last few days.

Shouldn't be that bad. An 18-year-old pro mechanic said it was pretty straightforward except for the wiring.

I heard in Germany they have all the technology needed for such a swap.

Wouldn't that fit perfectly in a true beetle-like tail installation?
No need to worry about the PPF

Is that a diesel? If not then it is not a reasonable VW swap.

There IS a turbo VR6 powered Miata floating around in the US...

This would just be like that, but twice!

Yeah man, it should drop right in. The wiring isn't a problem at all though, you just use the stock wiring harness and sensors.

When my friend's friend's cousin did his swap it took about 30 minutes, but most of that was from letting it cool down before they started pulling the stock motor.

Was someone trying to build it or were they just putting a junk engine in a junk car to save space. A diesel Miata would be slow but awesome because DIESEL.

That car is still floating around.... should be pretty simple to finish at this point. It's a 5 cylinder Mercedes turbo diesel. It was being done for srs. (Well... for srs in that it was being done, but nobody took it seriously, if that makes sense.)

It's mounted and bolted up in that picture.

I'd fancy a 1.9tdi w/ working a/c and done all for me magically so I don't have to break a sweat.

There's a guy in m.net swap section that was doing a 1.9 TDI. I don't know if he ever finished it.

I think it would be a fabulous daily.

Thinking about buying a new Passat diesel to replace my 335i for a daily. Thoughts? Experiences?

The new Passat TDI's are awesome. Shoot for a manual and do not get the upgraded 'RNS510' radio with nav. I average mid 40mpg's on the freeway and high 30's around town. Tons of leg room front and rear and the trunk space is awesome. The torque doesn't get boring, however they do sort of fall on their face above 80mph. Most problems you will have (02 sensors, turbo failure[rare])will be covered under warranty even after you're out of your bumper to bumper.
