what do you mean? all miatas exept the mazdaspeed edition (2005) are na.

are you talking about if you buy one and turbo it before you start driving it?

i guess what i mean is did you guys do up your tuebo and then add a tuner like emanage or run na first then turbo after you got to know it. i dont have a miata i have a sportage with the mazda fe3. im on the fence if i want to run na, turbo or supercharge it. i got recomended to this site by a friend who said there are a bunch of emanaged fe3 miatas on here.

yes, I ran my car na untill I had the money to get the turbo kit for it. I would reccomend getting use to how the car drives na, and when you are ready for more power look into a kit or DIY. With the greddy kit you dont HAVE to have emanage, like right now I dont but i will soon. Check out the DIY turbo FAQ's Brianeack wrote, it is very detailed and helpful

I did it both ways... I found adding the EM first and getting to work with the software, play with timing was really beneficial. Then
It only takes a day or two to fab up the IC pipes+ DP and manifold. If you can add your WBO2 first as well--@ least get it wired up. It only takes an hour or two to wire in an EM Blue--Probably alot less with a Boomslang Harness...

Well I added the emanage sans blower.... got it working NA, then added the Map sensor... then added the autotune, then added the blower (after getting it).....

Actually the first time around with the Bipes (which was the only electronic part I believe), I put it in first. Then I through the blower and the AFPR, etc.... Then removed AFPR when I got the powercard....

So I would 2x start electronic first, 1x was upgrade while running.....

i'm doing that. i'm building my second turbo system. i installed the ECU yesterday (link) and am going to run n/a until i refamiliarize myself with it.

when i removed the first system, i rebuilt the head and had it modified and such.

so far, the car is a LOT of fun with just the Link in it. with no flapper door air sensor, i just used the pipe from my JRCAI and stuck an open element filter on the end. the car has a jr header, hi-flo cat and roadstersport exhaust. it has alway been loud with this setup, in a good way, but now with the open intake and deeper breathing head, at 4000 rpms to redline, the car literally roars. i'm also digging the instantaneous throttle response.

my second turbo system is complete, but i'm in no hurry to istall it just yet.

IIRC adding the link NA takes 1/2 sec off a quarter mile run..@ least that's what I remember reading...

my first kit was a modified greddy running a link with 440cc injectors. i sold it all off (i regret selling the link)

this time, it started with an fm3 manifold nobody recognized on ebay for ~$170. i am building a BEGI/fm 2-3 from parts i am scoring here and there. i have gt2554r i bought off a MS protege owner looking to go with a bigger turbo. essentially, it will be a SBB fm2.5 for 1/2 the price of a new one.

my 1.6 feels REALLY strong with the link back on it. feels like a '99 motor with I/H/E on it. i suspect the p&p'd shaved head, open intake and free-flowing exhaust is helping too.

the Link ECU is a mostly plug and play stand alone ECU for the Miata. Flying Miata sells them. Brainstorm sells a version, too, but they aren't as sorted as the FM ones. usually you can get decent deals on the used ones if you watch and wait for them.
