Photos have not been touched in post processing aside from some small angle adjustments. I'll just post the photos out of camera as to not skew/manipulate results.

Though the Morimoto claim higher Lumen output, it seems about the same as the WHDZ. The beam pattern on the Morimoto at night is more even and softer meaning it doesn't have strange hot spots and scattering as commonly found with reflectors.

Sorry for out of focus images, I had used the viewfinder on a manual lens while wearing glasses. I think it's still enough to convey the point though.

I'll post later tonight or tomorrow the side by side comparison of each lamp. I'll only have one lamp per shot on instead of both lights populated mainly because I'm lazy and if I switch them out, I'll just leave the Morimoto's in and not go back to the WHDZ.

If these where proper HID/super baller headlights I'd be more inclined to do a more in depth comparison with before and afters.

The WHDZ's seem to have some film on the top half of the Polycarbonate lens, could be scum or biofilm or just from vibrating/contacting the rubber pad on the bumper support that takes up that space under the light. I'll try to clean it off before the comparison tonight. I do like the glass on the Morimotos. Cleaning is easier.

Morimoto on the right
WHDZ on the left

I personally love how the WHDZ looks. Morimoto has a larger cast heatsink/bucket. It also allows for more mounting options with auxiliary threaded holes on the sides. Both will mount as any standard old H2064 but the flange on the Morimoto is a bit taller. I had to loosen the tree screws that hold the bezel on just to fit it back on the popups. No drama otherwise, no modifications. Morimoto is also equipped to run as DRL with that auxiliary brown wire hanging out.

I did notice some clouding on the WHDZ as they are used. But what strikes me is that it's on the reflector itself for the low beam. I don't know if it's condensation or if that's the focal point where it's getting heated for whatever reason. This might very well affect the reflected light output, but probably not by much. Hmm...

So I learned that human eyes are pretty shitty at measuring intensity. The Morimotos are definitely brighter and more evenly distributed due to the projector(s). I wasn't sure how to present the photos so I just grouped them by high/low beam seen below:

I find it interesting that the color temperature seemed cooler on the WHDZ which is advertised to be 5600K, whereas the Morimoto 6000K seems warmer. It could also be the lens on the projectors refracting into the yellow region on the fringes which contributes to this color. the two vertical lenses fill the side illumination as the top and bottom projector satisfy low beam and high beam respectively.

So in the end, I swapped over to the morimoto and then found this condensation on the inside:

sealed huh?

I'm stoked to out the morimotos in the Jeep. It will look awesome.

psyber_0ptix 11-11-2016 12:52 AM

I think functionally, they are pretty nice aside from that condensation.

Did you still want my old headlamps?

aidandj 11-11-2016 12:54 AM

Yes. My trucks 45 year old sealed beams are not cutting it.

Hopefully not in the turbo inlet!
