Record Dyno Pull

I ran my car at Gridlife's Mid Ohio meet last weekend, and also got on my friend's mobile dyno. My car currently holds the record...for lowest power Miata that's crossed the rollers:

The car runs like a top, just a slow, ugly top. It's a 92 with a NA8 power train swap running the 1.6 ecu, throttle body, and maf, which isn't doing the old stock 1.8 any favors up top. I've started collecting parts for a modest turbo setup, that dyno sheet can't go anywhere but up from here. Well, up or a flat line I guess.

Haha, looks about right to me. Get yourself a MS3 and a decent turbo setup, and you'll more than double that easily.

You should probably put a cage in.
thats allot of horsepower for one man to handle

Damn that’s a 1.8 too? Jeez. Even my bone stock 225k mile NA6 managed 104 whp

That's the plan, MS3 and a Garrett 2554 or 2560, I've got a bp4 head and squaretop on the shelf to help it breathe a little better as well.

My friends and I suspect there's an issue with it running way too rich onrthe 1.8 injectors on the 1.6 computer, but between a possible afr goof and the 1.6 air restrictions it falls apart up top. My initial plan was to go megasquirt to get the tune right, but once I added up the parts costs for my n/a plans it was just an incremental increase to add boost. Now you find me here

That’s just the restrictive 1.6 AFM. The results look even worse thanks actually to the gains of the 1.8 at lower RPMs. Just think how bad it’d be with the 1.6.

get the MS installed, AFM deleted, and enjoy an extra 10-15hp once properly tuned.

you may also want to get rid of the FM throttle body adapter and bolt on a 1.8 unit.

The FM adapter and 1.6 TB will definitely go, over the winter I'll be going from a 1.6 TB and NA8 head/intake to a BP4 head, squaretop and 1.8 TB, my goal is a conservative turbo setup that will survive summer track day heat/abuse and a better flowing top end will accomplish that with less resistance.

Dude that convinced Burt to 1.8 swap here and one of the dyno operators :wavey: We've had quite a few Miata's of various flavors across this dyno since my buddy Ryan picked it up. My old turbo motor lives on it in Ryan's Miata naturally aspirated and we saw 115 whp tuned with a speedy but breathing through the stock AFM (stealth mod), we saw a 6 whp increase to 121 whp ditching the AFM. Before we tuned it the car ran like hot dog shit on the stock 1.6 electronics, the prevailing wisdom is to use the 1.8 injectors with the 1.8 motor but I honestly think it makes them run too rich. Didn't get a chance to verify this on the dyno but something is definitely not optimized doing the swap on the 1.6 ecm.
