Removed the PS Completely, but...I GOT E-THUGGED

Now I have a CEL it is obviously from the wire that was disconnected from the pump. Short of removing the CEL bulb, is there any other way to solve the issue? Thanks all.

Ben 09-20-2007 08:48 AM

Yeah, uh obviously

Bother checking the code? :gtfo:

SamS 09-20-2007 08:56 AM

I didn't get any code when I took out my pump. Take it to auto zone/advance auto and get your ecu scanned.

96rdstr 09-20-2007 08:57 AM

If I clear the code, wont it just come back when the car fires up again? I am pretty sure it will. Just like an EGR code would.

Ben 09-20-2007 08:58 AM

are you paying attention? read the code. you have NO IDEA what it's lit for

You could get your point across without being a dick. You know that, right? I will go get it checked, but damn ease up on the tone.

I find it ironic that my car, that has never thrown a code before, throws one right after I removed the PS pump and disconnected the wire from the pump.

devin mac 09-20-2007 09:15 AM

there are probably a couple dozen other things you could have done without realizing it when you were dicking around under the hood to remove your PS... the point Ben's making is that you're just assuming that the PS delete itself is what caused your code, which NOBODY has ever reported as far as I'm aware. Thus, you have no idea what the code actually is, and are looking to us to solve the problem for you. get the code checked.

There was a post on .net about it, but a response was ever made. That is why I asked. I am just going to disconnect the neg battery cable for now, clear the ECU, then if it comes back I will have it checked. It will be a while until I go to the parts store for anything. Thanks all.

neogenesis2004 09-20-2007 09:28 AM

Removing ps does not throw a code.

Cars with and without ps use the exact same ecu. All cars are also prewired for ps even when they dont have it.

Ben 09-20-2007 09:33 AM

I'm not being a dick. You're being dense.

Pulling the battery won't clear the code in OBDII. Buy an OBDII scanner; even the dirt cheapest $30 scanner is super useful.

The wire going to the PS pump tells the computer when the PS is being used. Under IDLE conditions, the stock ecu adds a little duty cycle to the idle valve to let a little extra air around the butterflies. That's it and that's all.

Guess how many PS codes get thrown in non PS cars? Goose eggs, zero, nil. Same ecu. There is no PS code.

Read the code and fix the problem. Could be something that will effect your economy BIG TIME like an o2 sensor, or could be something stupid like a flow issue with the EGR, could have been a misfire event that will never occur again.

Please continue to call me a dick. I'll ban your ass and steal your avatar. :inout:

See, your third response is more like it, and I appreciate a reasoning behind the post, it obviously explains more, rather than "check your codes", and "are you paying attention"....besides, that's not smart dude, and dont be thinking of stealing cookie monster.

"The Count"

TonyC 09-20-2007 02:22 PM

UHH... so... wtf is the code fewl?

firedog25 09-20-2007 03:32 PM

OBD-II scanner is an invaluable tool to have for ANY car owner out there. Considering most shops in my area charge $65 for a fucking scan and clear my little orange box has paid for itself about 20 times over.... My WRX has a lightweight flywheel which freaks out the ECU.

cjernigan 09-20-2007 03:35 PM

Advanced, Autozone, oreily, shucks, all those places scan for free if needed.

96rdstr 09-20-2007 03:37 PM

Fewl doesnt know yet. Advanced Auto will scan it for free, I just have to get up there.

I love how in every thread, no matter what the original topic was, it ends with someone ragging Hustler.

Speaking of that, how do you make the EGR flow code stop coming on? BTW, hey guys I'm rob. Been stalking this forum for a few months and finally decided to join.

magnamx-5 09-21-2007 08:22 AM

Bout time rob, not on the stock ecu. If you creat a circiut to simulate the egr output it expects to see then the code will go away.

Speaking of F for smarts, my CEL went out on its own, but I will still get it checked.
