Replace cat or get a straight pipe? Resonator?
I'm not sure what to do, I have two broken studs on my Catalyatic converter. Of course on opposite sides, with the biggest being on the side that connects the cat to the muffler via midpipe. My miata is a 1.6L NA 92' so no o2 sensor on cat ;).
I've been trying to find a used straight pipe, brand new they're about $60 or trade my cat for one. But what do you guys think? It's just going to be a dd and possibly track it. Also, in FL so no emissions :D is it really that much louder over a stock cat? Or should I just get my cat repaired? Right now I'd remove it and make it simple repair but I think the flange on my cat is damaged I know for sure I'll need 4 new studs.... |
just drill out the studs and replace with bolts

They always break, knock/drill them and replace with bolts.
When I switched from a 3" bullet cat to a 3" test pipe, it was a bit louder, but the worst part was the highway drone. |

Cheaper then a mid pipe; but ironically the straight pipe would've been 10$ brand new -- almost free due to the recycle cost of the cat ;). hopefully the flange isn't damaged. welding on the cat never works out. |
u must be legal. if straight pipe is legal do it if you can stand the noise.
