Replacing the rear passenger side quarter panel off the NA Miata
So I start step one tomorrow, I have my donor car or chunk of one lol so ill be adding onto this a lot since I believe there's only one other page somewhere that goes into detail on this, its really good but kinda vague. So I'm gonna make a totally kick ass thread with a bunch of facts, pics and cool !!

You will very quickly find that it is not worth the time or effort. Even on the race cars, if there is significant quarterpanel damage we just scrap the shell, and that's including the $2000 or so it costs to have the new shell caged.

What is the existing damage? Ive replaced part of my rockers due to rust but never a quarter panel. IDK if I would bother either.
I also just made my own patch..never used donor parts. In for pics... |
He has the autobody shop and teacher helping him, but i have a feeling he's going to find some hidden extensive damage thats gonna kill it. Cheaper to find shell methinks

Already have had this bad boy on a lift and checked. If anythings out of the norm its not to bad and we can fix it

about the existing damage there was nothing wrong b4 I wrecked it. Solid as a rock

First day down.....this is hell, not really bad hell just the kind of hell like when you have a Saturday off but dedcide to go in when your co worker calls in sick or something :) but I got all the plug welds drilled out besides for the strip around the top. When taking that off there's a bunch of little 10mm bolts I couldn't see so I looked stupid for 5 minutes then got on google. Now we have this awsome plug weld drill tool that clamps around the metal like a vise and taps in. AMAZING TOOL besides for the upper welds where you can't use it :( the back panel between the frankenstein bolts is a B! Because it overlaps the panel about half way and is hidden via a tin of seam sealer...got that OXYCETELIN TORCH (spelled wrong I believe) that worked well but kind of stunk. Gotta buy another drill bit and borrow my friends kick ass drill for a few of the hard spots to make it go smoother because that tool gets anoying when drilling straight. Ill post pics once I figure out how to do so from my phone!

You should update this, I'm looking to start the same thing... Mine are rusting and one's dented... Might be hell but I'm up for it ;) gonna be a clean body after a looooot of time haha.
