Ricer Question

Red or Silver adjustable cam gears? Also, if anyone knows where I can get Fidanza (or equivalent) gears for less than $180 shipped, speak up.

I think I saw a set of cam gears over on m.net classifieds for $160.

Braineack 01-23-2008 08:22 PM

silver. ebay.

I'd much rather pay a little extra and not get OBX, thank you.

Red gears are faster, and will give you better throttle response, but the silver ones clearly make for a more stable drivetrain at higher RPMs, which is why I would only install sivler gears.

I'd paint them white if I were going to paint them.

I have one silver, one black (unorthodox) that I will never use. The silver one has a drilled/tapped hole in it for a sensor trigger. Might be too ugly for you- but far from rice.

I voted silver.

Are you going to adjust them? If not, can we laugh and point? ;)

Yeah the whole point of them is to adjust them. And if I get them quick enough, I can get FREE dyno time... :)

Splitime 01-23-2008 09:21 PM

Bah, I want to point and laugh.

fourwhls 01-23-2008 09:25 PM

I went with Red. Why? I dunno?

I bought the Fidanzas from www.ultrarev.com.

m2cupcar 01-23-2008 10:32 PM

the real hurdle would be finding them :D should I look?

jayc72 01-23-2008 10:39 PM

That would be cool... especially if it's within the next few days.

y8s 01-24-2008 11:58 AM

rob will the one that ben doesn't get work on an 01 exhaust cam?

Ben 01-24-2008 12:34 PM

LOL, what makes you think I only want ONE? :gtfo:

m2cupcar 01-24-2008 01:49 PM

is there a difference between the 01 exhaust cam and other 1.8s? These gears were for an NA 1.8. That trigger on the silver one was only used to set coil phase - not for the OE trigger purpose (I think the OE gear has three triggers on it).

Pretty sure he'll be using the CAS anyway so it shouldn't make much difference.

y8s 01-24-2008 02:52 PM

actually that's a good question. i'm not sure.

m2cupcar 01-24-2008 03:17 PM

right- but either way there's no trigger on the exhaust cam of any NB and I know the NB exhaust cam has a CAS drive on the back end for Ben's use.

Does the hydra use the OE cam trigger?

the hydra uses the intake cam's OE sensor on at least the 01. But I think it also uses it on other cars for sequential ignition.

Whichever color is cheaper.
