Roll bar questions, boss frog clearview maxx + hard top?

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Clearview Maxx will work with a hard top in an NA? I know the HDHCDD will work if you bolt it in. Is the same true for the Clearview Maxx?

I recently got a good deal on a 1990 with a hard top. The car will be street driven 95% of the time. I've got a couple of young kids and not a whole lot of free time to kill at the track. A few autocrosses and HPDE's. I'm 5'10 with a 33" inseam and after the foamectomy my head is still maybe 2" over the top of the seat. Seat is positioned a couple notches from the rear bulkhead.

I know there's no perfect solution with stock seats. For HPDE's, it seems like I can kinda go two ways with the roll bar. Get the HDHCDD, or run one that's a bit short, put the hard top on, and hope no one bothers with a close check. The HDHCDD is the only bar I've ever spent time with and it's definitely a little close to my head for comfort. Since it's going to live mostly on the street, I'd like the bar to sit back as far as humanly possible.

Seems like the Clearview Maxx is the best in terms of rearward placement vs height? The non-HDHCDD Hard Dog products and the regular Clearview all seem a couple inches farther forward for the same height.

Our Miata rollbars come in two designs, the Double Hoop and the Clearview Single Hoop. Either style can be ordered with Standard hoops to fit under a hardtop, or with Maxx type hoops for additional recline angle where use of a hardtop is not required. The Standard type rollbars limit the seat recline slightly, while the Maxx type gives full recline, but will not fit under a hardtop. The height and strength of all four types is the same, so the choice is just a personal preference.
Hard Dog sells bars that are advertised as non-hardtop, but some have found they work with either slight rubbing at the top of the bar and/or with the use of slim side latches or mounting plates. The Boss Frog Maxx bars don't fit under a hardtop, period.

Thanks. I figured it wouldn't clear...looks like it's at least 2 inches farther back than any other bar of that height.

So nothing thats really street safe, track safe, stock seat and hard top friendly. Who'd have thought there'd be compromises with a 2100lb sports car......

I'm not sure about Boss Frogg, but my Deuce from Hard Dog did not have a problem clearing the hard top.

I have a frog double, and it fits fine with the HT. It's definately not a maxx though.

The HD's you get the HT version, and it will fit fine with the hardtop as well....

If you want a glass window at any point make sure you look at a bar that fits with the glass.... so in your case an M2 HCHTDD would be good.....

steelrat, when you drop the top, does your frog double touch any of the folded top? I had a Hard Dog Deuce on my old 99NB and it curled the edges around the glass window when the top was down. That was the only thing I didn't like about it.

People who say the MAXX DD roll bar doesn't fit under a hardtop are wrong. Not sure about double hoop but the DD does. Full Stop.

Here are pics showing it on my NA.

The Maxx bar will not work with the newer hardtops (01+ or something) that have the extra material in front of the rear window but it works fine with the older hardtops. My 10AE has a Maxx bar and the hardtop fits just fine.
