Rollbar speakers
Some of you guys might not get it, but I just dazed off for a minute while painting and thought of it. Normally when we go to a skate spot I just crank the speakers. Even though I have yet to try out my new system for a year now , I think I want to add something specifically for while outside skating.
Looking for recommendations on how to set up a rollbar speaker type setup. Hopefully something not even noticeable would be nice. I'm having some tabs welded to the rollbar to hold the boards as it is, so I don't want to add more and more shit and look like robocop driving around with shit all over the rollbar! I haven't done any research yet, just thought of the idea. What do you guys think? This would be so dope to have, I know I would love it. Just trying to think how to make it not super noticeable, have a good range while out of the car, and probably a switch so they aren't on all the time. I'm guessing I would probably have to get a bigger battery too hunh? Capacitor needed for such a thing? lol my eyes are soo itchy right now. |
I would say just a good set of 6x9s in cheapy boxes mounted so that they could swing flush on package shelf while driving, and swing up and back for sound while parked.
|
Don't some of your friends drive cars they wouldn't mind doing this in? Cars with bigger batteries, and possibly speakers mounted in the back doors that can swing out (think Astro).
Or, you could park the car facing away from the park, and open the doors. |
You want something like this? eBay Motors: Jeep Wrangler TJ Factory Sound Bar & Speakers 97 - 02 (item 250379929771 end time Mar-27-09 13:20:29 PDT)
Just search ebay for "jeep speaker" . That should give you plenty of rollbar speaker options. EDIT: also found these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jeep-...spagenameZWDVW |

I never even thought about the jeep speaker setup, not sure if its clean/hidden enough for me though. I was thinking something small like maybe 4"-6" and mounted to the rollbar facing the rear. I'm gonna follow the jeep idea trail on google and see where that leads me. If I cant do it on the rollbar without it looking like a joke, I'll move to trying out the open backside of the trunklid. |
Just found these with "jeep speakers" on ebay. Thanks artie!

What do you guys think of something like that. Mounted somewhere maybe on the side, right behind the seat. Edit: Fuck me I just looked at the price |

But at the same time, I'm not looking to spend more than $150 or so on this. I was just thinking ahead of time for this spring and summer. Who knows, all that shit I put in last spring might be plenty loud enough. I haven't listened to it for more than simply testing everything. :hs: |
How about a portable boombox :hustler: in the trunk?

You'd probably be better off with a small outdoor speaker and find a mounting solution using hardware from Ace.

Search ebay for wakeboard tower speakers. There's plenty to be had there, plus they come with brackets. Should be easy enough mounting them. You could even do a removable mount that you could hook up when you got there and throw in the trunk before you leave.

way to easy to break when skating... also kinda is a big F U to the people you are skating with since they don't get to enjoy it either. |
Where's that pic of that dumass with 2 speakers in plexi glass mounted to his roll bar? It was that remote mount guy.

Thanks sixshooter, I think the wakeboard tower speakers is where its at. Specifically those black ones on the top link. Something all black so they don't stand out as much is what I'm looking for along with size. So those look to be exactly what I need.
Like I said some of you guys might not be down with this. Some of the spots we go to we stay for a couple hours at a time. IPOD and headphones work longboarding, but not skateboarding. And bringing the boombox was what I did when I was 12. If it costs $150 or so and a couple hours to wire it up, it'll be so worth it. :) Now I just need to figure out a power solution to work only the radio for a couple hours without fear of killing the battery. Otherwise its almost pointless to do in the first place. On a side note. What cameras/mounts are you guys using on your rollbars? I need a camera setup too. I've read a ton of reviews online, just want to see what you guys that already have them are using. |
tripods, heads, monopods, light stands, camera supports, lighting supports, professional tripod 035 - SUPER CLAMP...
Git it at a local camera shop. __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
IO port racing mount,
Stickypod for "in car" follow views of longboarding. That long hill i linked you too is following me with the sticky pod, and my track day videos are with the IO port racing mount. Stickypod is on the hood, IO port is on the roll bar. |
This takes nice video.
Panasonic HPX-500, with lens 32 GB P2 storage cards Bogen Tripod Bogen Dali for the tripod http://gobnf.org/i/bns/HPX-500-small-400.jpg ...but it's a little pricey. |

Nobody else was offering suggestions. What I was really doing was giving him a bump. I think people read the thread topic and decide not to click here. Good luck. |

What? It's a deal at $16,000. He can anchor his own newscast when he gets done covering the race.
