Rota slipstreams

I was looking at some sportmax 002's, but i think i like the slipstreams more, will the 15x7's with the 40mm offset fit comfortably under the miata? I have no idea :dunno: Any other opinions on some 5-6 spoke FLAT black wheels for cheap?

cjernigan 10-28-2007 10:14 PM

Any wheels can be painted flat black pretty easily. The slipstreams look pretty good though. Everything else is pretty big $$ that I know of unless konig makes something cheap that looks similar.

mazda/nissan 10-28-2007 10:20 PM

konig does have some heliums that look, but not any cheaper. 40mm offset will though right?

cjernigan 10-28-2007 10:21 PM

Yes, 40 will fit, pretty sure that is stock.

mazda/nissan 10-28-2007 10:26 PM

ok well goodwinracing says that 40mm came stock, but any other ideas on cheap wheels? I'd even be tempted to get them sent out and powdercoated at this point because i got some goodrich tires comin in soon and i want something to put them on

(didn't see your post, thx cjernigan!!)

magnamx-5 10-29-2007 04:07 AM

I have heard bad thing about PC'ng wheels it has been said it makes them more brittle :dunno:

hustler 10-29-2007 08:32 AM

99 wheels, painted black.

firedog25 10-29-2007 06:32 PM

Well, they do basically bake a wheel if they powdercoat them. Really I'd just rattle can them for flat black. Touch ups are cheap and easy. Powdercoating, if you catch a rock you're just shit out of luck.

ray_sir_6 10-29-2007 07:14 PM

Wrong

Nope. Painted wheels already use a powder clear coat on them from the factory. They are only heated to 350deg, and it has zero negative affects.

Same goes for any painted wheel, including rattle can, unless you don't give a shit about how it looks.

It looks fine. I've rattle canned 3 sets of wheels, no one ever thought it was a home grown job.

slutz4 10-29-2007 09:48 PM

40 will fit easily, you can go aggressive as +10 and not have many issues

cjernigan 10-29-2007 10:03 PM

I like my +36s FWIW.

RickA 10-29-2007 10:28 PM

Don't mean to be neat-picky, but I'm pretty sure it's 42 or 43

That all depends on the paint you use. If you're using Krylon black primer sure people are going to point and laugh at you. If you use a decent paint then you'd have to look pretty close to see that it's not a factory job. Especially if you give it a good color sand and polish.

I was referring to the chipping issue. You have to work over most of the wheel to smooth out a chip on any painted wheel. Unless, again, you don't care how it looks, then you can just spray over it.

I read somewhere a while ago that you shouldn't powder coat wheels because if they crack it won't show. I think it was some track rule or something that they would not allow people to run powder coated wheels. Not sure how true that is though, I just remember reading it.

cjernigan 11-02-2007 01:50 AM

Plus PCing is expensive and heavy. Rattle can and clear, otherwise flat black is baller on slips.

I used rustoleum on the bronze wheels and it was OK. The duplicolor high temp engine paint is the best though. That stuff goes on super thick, and looks great. Be sure to spray very thin coats.

Krylon flat black + krylon gloss black actually look really nice, and hold up to the outdoor weather really well

Ningai 12-01-2007 02:52 PM

That's a hot car. I originally glanced over Slipstreams in my wheel search but you have changed my opinion on them and Miatas.

supahamster 12-02-2007 10:07 AM

very nice! gotta love them slipstreams! low weight, strong structure... perfect for the track =)
