Rotella. Is this the right one?

So I went to Rotella tonight to get some oil for my new engine. I'm done with break in so now it's time for synthetic.

I have read a lot here about Rotella T Syn or something like that. Is THIS what everyone is talking about? Did I get the correct type?

There is only one weight of Rotella synthetic. So everyone you hear of using the Rotells syn., is using that...including me.

RotorNutFD3S 11-03-2010 10:28 PM

Yeah, that's it. It used to just be Rotella T in a different looking jug, but now it's "T6".

Faeflora 11-03-2010 10:29 PM

Well I mean is that the correct VARIETY of rotella, not is it the correct weight.

Faeflora 11-03-2010 10:30 PM

Holy mother of cock i hope so because I bought 3000 gallones.

Aricjm15 11-03-2010 10:34 PM

That is the correct shit sir.

Doppelgänger 11-03-2010 10:40 PM

There is only one Rotella synthetic.

Is that better? :giggle:

Faeflora 11-03-2010 10:46 PM

FUCK YAH! thanks

There's also Rotella T5 which (I think) is a blend of synthetic and dino oil.

What's a good price on the T6? I need to change the oil on my truck, intended to go with T6, but the one local store I've seen it at so far (haven't searched extensively yet) wanted $30/gallon, which is pretty steep for a truck that takes 10-11 quarts!

Jfornachon 11-04-2010 03:44 AM

I found it at the local wally world for 20 a gallon.

Have a great day,
Jared

Ian, Walmart sells a 10 quart jug of Rotella 15w40 dino for like $30-35. That's what I use in my truck. T6 is usually close to double that.

Oh yah? I found at at wal mart for $19.98 a gallon. It was the first time I have been in there for years. As I walked out, I noticed that I felt like less of a person.

Fuck Wal-Mart and those of you who give them your money. Wal-Mart and their sub-par bulk bought products....yuck. Yes, I am too good for Wal-Mart. because I am not trailer trash, illegal or living on welfare.

Advance and Vato Zone have it for like $21.xx, I'd rather support them. I wish they would sell the 1qt verstions of the T6 though.

walmart bankrolls china.

mgeoffriau 11-04-2010 10:09 AM

Advance has got it for $24.99

I bought like 6 gallons from Advance a few months ago before they changed the rule and decided you couldn't use coupon or coupon codes for motor oil. I think my total cost came out to something like $12 or $14 per gallon.

I like to think I had a little part in the changing of that rule. :vash:

Can't find that stuff anywhere around here.... I found "Rotella T" at the Cat dealer(heavy equipment dealer) is that dino oil?? if so, I'll use it for break in on the new motor and find some T6 on my next trip across the border to the US of A.

NA6C-Guy 11-04-2010 10:46 AM

I love me some T, though I and my car seems to prefer the dino version (15W-40), the synth is much thinner (sounds like a jug of OJ), and makes my valvetrain sound like it's going to fly apart, also the engine just feels overall "loose", and I don't like it. Though this time I tried some Delo 400 for shits and giggles. I love getting questioned about my purchase EVERY time I buy oil. "You do know this is diesel oil you are putting in your Miata?" YES! I'm aware.

Beautiful, comprehensive viscosity analysis.

"We" run dino Rotella in Matt Andrews' racecar and once I get my oil temps in check I may switch to dino too. These oils perform great but at 11.5:1 for extended periods shear kills the oil after about 5-hours of track time. Without that shear, its anyone's guess how long I could run that oil on the track...maybe 15 hours?

Doppelgänger 11-04-2010 11:13 AM

I used the dino/T1 in my 96 and my 99 with no problems. On my 96, I used 20/50 and had no HLA noise

I wanted to be as detailed and correct as possible. I was going to say water, but that would be stretching the truth. :loser:

Weren't you hardcore Rotella Synth preaching a while back, what is with the talk of dino?

Faeflora 11-04-2010 12:01 PM

Yah what is up with that. I don't want my engine to be all loose and slutty. If synth does that then I will get dino. Fuck

sixshooter 11-04-2010 02:04 PM

Don't forget,

loose is fast.

Went to Wally-world today, the 1 gallon jugs of Rotella T 15w40 (dino) were $12.50. The 2.5 gallon/10 quart jug was $15! I bought two.

rotella T synth. looked good when it came out of my echo after 7.5k. Medium brown and still looked golden when on the walls of the oil catch. Anyone using this going to 10k between oil changes?

I run regular Rotella or Delo Dino in my Cummins 8-10k between changes

it's truly only effective over a long term analysis history. A singular spot check is no better than cutting open an oil filter
